[Solution] No 3D acceleration in Windows 8+

In order to have the game use 3D acceleration natively without the files below, your display resolution must be equal to or above 1600x1024. If your monitor does not support such resolutions, read below:

The lack of proper hardware acceleration for DirectDraw in Windows 8 causes Bejeweled to only work in software mode saying that your graphics card is unsupported when you try to enable 3D acceleration. Here's how to make it work in Windows 8+:

1. Download the latest version of WineD3D from here[fdossena.com].
2. Unpack the following 3 files from the archive into the game's installation directory
- ddraw.dll
- libwine.dll
- wined3d.dll

Enjoy.

Since WineD3D is in active development, the latest version may contain bugs. In that case, older versions might work better for you depending on your card. For Nvidia users 1.7.52 was the stable release, AMD users reported 1.9.21 worked for them.

Files in the archive are compiled from the latest WineD3D DirectDraw Library. This is essentially a DirectDraw emulator that translates DirectDraw calls to OpenGL.

That is not certainly true, because on my old laptop, windows 7, 1366x768 with Intel Hd Graphics family 3000, as 3d acceleration enabled and running on ultra, on my Windows 8 tablet 1280x800 with Intel HD Graphics as 3d acceleration enabled and runs on ultra too, but on my new laptop with "windows 10" 1366x768 with 2 Graphic cards, Intel HD Graphics and an Nvidia Ge force 920MX, the game won't recognize 3d acceleration, what the heck?

I have Plants vs Zombies Game of the Year installed on my Windows 10 64-bit. It can run on fullscreen mode (graphics are stretched) but 3D Acceleration is not supported.

I copy those 3 files (ddraw.dll, libwine.dll, wined3d.dll) to C:\ProgramData\PopCap Games\PlantsVsZombies (this is the place where popcapgame1.exe is created when the game is running) and now I can enable 3D Acceleration. In fullscreen mode, the graphics are not stretched anymore but it has black bars on left and right sides.

I use the recommended version from https://fdossena.com/?p=wined3d/index.frag (version 1.7.52).

- Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
- Intel Core i5 4460
- 16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 RAM

*AMD cards are not fully supported yet, you may have more luck with the older versions, however you should always try the latest version first and see if the support for AMD cards has been implemented.

Hi Friends. I had an AMD Radeon HD7850 2GB OC Edition, with this GPU I had played all popcap games in windows 7 x64 perfectly (bejeweled 2, bejeweled 3, bejeweled twist, chuzzle, plants vs zombies and zuma's revenge), and in windows 10 x64 I had played bejeweled 3 perfectly, bejeweled twist and zuma's revenge perfectly with wined3d (ddraw), and chuzzle modifying config.cfg in profile folder. bejeweled 2 and plants vs zombies in fullscreen with 3d accel looks pixelated, without 3d accel looks perfect, and windowed with 3d accel looks perfect too, but three weeks ago my gpu it damaged.
Some days ago i buy a GTX 1050ti (Gigabyte Windforce), and i did a fresh install of win 7 x64.
bejeweled 3, bejeweled twist, chuzzle and zuma's revenge looks and run perfectly, but bejeweled 2 and plants vs zombies now looks pixelated, like in windows 10, and with wined3d looks perfect but with low fps, and bejeweled 2 sometimes it freezes.
If someone know how can fix this problem, without disable 3d accel or play in windowed, please can help me? thanks.
I tried all wined3d versions and same results.

Here is a fix for AMD users (It might work for Nvidia and Intel users as well). Tested on an AMD RX 460 4GB and can confirm it works.

right-click the game in your games library go to game properties the local files then click on browse local files, when windows explorer opens right click on bejewled3.exe and click on properties, go to the compatibility taband use the following options;

set the compatibility mode to windows 7, disable full-screen optimizations, run as administrator. now when you start bejeweled 3 you should get al the options wortking again

Luckily for me Bejeweled 3 didnt have this problem on Windows 10 for me. BEjeweled twist did though so I got replacement files

At least for me, Bejeweled 3 works perfect in windows 8.1/10 x64, before with a sapphire radeon hd7850 2GB, and now with a gigabyte gtx 1050ti 4GB, without any fix or similar.
This solution works for me in bejeweled twist and zuma's revenge, unfortunately, wasn't works for me in bejeweled 2 and plants vz zombies.
I described how to do it in earlier comments.
