Game Won't Save? Try This:
Bejeweled 3 is unusual among Steam bejeweled games because it can act as a standalone game- it does NOT need the Steam app to play.

So you can copy the Bejeweled 3 game folder and paste the copy somewhere away from any Steam folders. Open it, and click the EXE file. The game should start.

Play it for a few screens.

Then shut the game down, then fire it up again.

If the game has saved your progress then the problem involves the Steam app (NOTE: Shut down the Steam app when trying this).

If it still hasn't saved anything then the problem involves your computer. Windows 10 seems to be a common factor in many cases.

Note that Bejeweled 3 plays 100% properly on my 2012 Windows 8/Puppy Linux 6.0.5 Tahrpup ASUS (no surprise), my 2002 Windows XP/Puppy Linux 5.2.5 Lucid Dell, and even the 2001 Windows XP/Puppy Linux 5.2.5 Lucid Sony VAIO. Only the ASUS plays it via the Steam app, but aside from the weird way I had to get hardware acceleration running no problem.

Also Note: I tinkered around with the Registry files. It has no effect on this sort of thing on any of those three devices.

Since it's unlikely to be patched it's nice to see people trying to fix this issue.
I saw you mention EA took over POPCAP, was this around the same time the problems started? I do not have this problem on my windows 10 machine. I don't really know how they put saving together for this game, I have it installed on my D: drive but the saving stuff is on my C: drive.

Can any of you tell me exactly where the saves are ?

It's mostly likely hidden far from your actual bejeweled folders, at least for me, so what you can do is:
Go to your File explorer, type in the search bar: Bejeweled, this might take some time but you have to wait it out because the files you want will actually show up last(again it did for me)
The file pathway you are looking for should end in AppData\Local\Steam
Open that, go to 'users' and you'll see several files that are affiliated with saving your progress. Which file exactly saves what I'm not sure as zen mode for example seems to have a seperate file but other game modes do not. I'm guessing because zen mode saves where you left off.

I have a question along this line (I hope). I recently bought a new computer. When I open Bejeweled now it's wanted me to start from scratch. I don't want to loose all the hours, etc. I've earned over the last few years. Any thoughts what I can do?

Try and find the files I mentioned above on your old pc, copy all of them and place them on an usb or something. On your new pc, make a user in the game and play one game so the game makes a new save file. Find those files and replace them with the ones you copied from your old PC. In theory that should work but I have not tried that myself.

Normacom54:

To find those files, open a folder, and in the address bar type in

%appdata%

Depending on the kind of computer Operating System you're using you might notice you're in a folder called "Roaming." If this is the case hit the UP arrow that moves you up through the folders- it should be the little black one to the left of the address bar.
Now you should see three folders: Local, LocalLow, and Roaming. Choose Local.

Scroll down if you must to find the Steam folder. Inside of that you should find the Bejeweled3 folder. Open it.

You should see two folders: cached and users. The files you want are in the users folder. Inside there you should see two files and a folder with the name you used, inside of that one you'll find the files holding your progress and scores.

If, after going to %appdata% you are already in local, then the Steam folder should be right there. My ASUS has all three, my old 2001 Sony only has the local, so it depends on what you are using. My ASUS uses Windows 8 (I do not like 10), so I am not too familiar with 10- other than it seems to cause problems with older games.

I've said this elsewhere: Years ago Popcap Games was bought up by EA. They have shown no interest whatsoever in patching those older games for newer computers and Operating Systems. Contacting them for help will be of little use.

Also: Bejeweled 3 is unlike the others here in that it is standalone. You do NOT need the Steam app to play it.
