Does this happen every time or did it just happen once?
Foals Errand Jan 24, 2017 @ 5:40pm
Every time, i've cleared the cache uninstalled and reinstalled. I've even tried running it as admin. Nothing works.

I'm not a dev of the game or anything, but here's my best shot at what this means.

Access violation errors mean that the game either tried to act on memory it didnt have the permission to, or failed to allocate the memory.

Basically its your computer's problem. If you have an antivirus or anything, try disabling it and see if it works. If it's not that, your computer may just not be able to run it, for example having not enough RAM to use.

Brand new computer. I'll try disabling my antivirus.
Any news here? Same problem. Played it for month on my laptop .... suddenly it craches.

Reasons that this could happen:

1. File corruption
2. No space (either on RAM or on hard disk)
3. Antivirus blocking it
4. Out of date operating system/modules

I've had exactly the same thing. I finished a lot of the achieves and most of the way through but about 6 months ago all of my game saves suddenly disapeared and back to square one. Then last week I got this same error you are getting exactly the same exception Fatal error etc. My first thought was as it's so small I'll re installed on "C" (I had it on a USB 3 external) now it works but no full screen. It says if I want to increase the .res I must enable 3D accelaration but when I do it says can't do that on this PC, your graphics card cannot handle 3D acceleration (my card is a Sapphire R9 380X it can handle 3D exceleration easily) So now I can only play in windowed mode which I hate, I like the full screen, I'll think very hard before I buy another popcap game.

Edit- and now it's giving that same Fatal error again so now I can't even play in windowed mode

2nd Edit- OK it's a known problem (http://answers.ea.com/t5/Other-Bejeweled-Games/Bejeweled-3-Error-Unable-to-Play/m-p/3750097/highlight/true#M54}

A partial solution is offered and an explanation that seems to blame old monitors which might explain it as I am using a Samsung LCD 1360X768 HD ready (so that means it's 720p) what about uyou guys are you using an oldish monitor. I'll try it on my smart TV tommorow

I went through this same problem and solved by disabling steam beta update. I hope it helps!:47_thumb_up:

Brand new Acer Aspire laptop with windows 10, worked perfectly first time and I left to do some work. Come back to unlock the laptop and start my second session when this happens. It flickers as though it's rescaling the resolution and then the error message appears. Seriously bummed I only got 2 hours of gameplay out of this :( and re-install didn't help.

with each attempt this line keeps changing

Exception: Access Violation (code 0xc0000005) at address 0076AF6E in thread 2E4

I've had

at address 0076AF6E in thread 151C
at address 0076AF6E in thread 1DE8
at address 0076AF6E in thread 430

and so on and so on

This however solved the problem

Modify 'ScreenMode' with RegEdit let me able to play game again, with some lag.

Modify 'ArtRes' would be better {LINK REMOVED}, but this property is no longer exists in RegEdit(?)

So open up game directory, find and edit file name 'compat.cfg'. Look for 'GetAppDefaultArtRes' and immediately return value of 600, so this file should looks like:

function(int) GetAppDefaultArtRes
{
return 600; /* returns immediately */
if (compat_IsVista)
{
if ((compat_AppSysMemTotalMB >= 768) && ...
...
}
}

By reading the code, I think they didn't have plan to support for Windows 8 yet, also this way you do not need to mess up with RegEdit.

Really wished there was a better way.

I think I know the problem: its hardware acceleration. Ive gotten this to happen when I was playing bejeweled 2, same thing came up, Access violation. Disabling hardware acceleration for that game worked, so try that
