Scavenger SV-4

Scavenger SV-4

Any other games like this?
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the game. Everything is basically perfect as it stands. My only problem is that there aren't many games like this one. I mean that as in there are barely any go into the little things of space life. Things like the airlocks, the cargo system, how mod-able the rover is, and how I can interact with other parts of the ship are what make the game so cool on top of the story and atmosphere. Games like Take On Mars and Space Engineers have been able to do this. Are there any other games that can replicate this?

I've seen another discussion like this before and the only game I've seen that's come close is Duskers. Duskers is 2D and top-down with control relying more on commands than direct remote, but has some similarities, such as a fleet of moddable drones, a completely different story but the same atmosphere of isolation, the ability to interact with other ships' systems, and a limited cargo system that's mostly restricted to drone and ship upgrades. It also has some roguelike elements.

Oh well. I already had it in my wish list so I guess this just confirms what I'm gonna do. Thanks!

I was hoping the community might have more ideas about this, because I'm also interested in more games like Scavenger. I've learned about things like Signal Simulator just from listening to the players, and that's been a nice side reward for me. :)

The closest game I know of right now to what you describe, that I would really highly recommend, is Outer Wilds.

They have a lot of differences. Outer Wilds is not very procedurally designed - it's very hand built. Every play of Scavenger will be somewhat different, but you can't really replay Outer Wilds at all after you finish it - which is sad, because it's such a good game.

Scavenger tries to make the player feel like they are Ripley in Alien, trying to make out what's going on through a little scratchy video feed, isolated and alone in a dangerous place you know little about. Outer Wilds makes me feel like a cross between an astronaut and a boy scout, in the universe of The Little Prince, exploring a whole solar system and piecing together a surprising and bittersweet tale. In both games, you have a ship with a few rooms and many systems to interact with, and you'll be in the role of an explorer in the unknown.

I absolutely loved all three of those games that you listed. I hope to see Scavenger grow.

Rodina is more of a solar system exploration game, but you definitely get the feeling of complete and utter loneliness that I get from Scavenger. It's in early access and is basically planned to be a giant RPG when it's done.

Weird question, but airlock mechanics?

Yep. You can also use the fire extinguisher to fly around like WALL-E.

Sold.

You might find the game Objects In Space interesting. I think it was essentially abandoned by the developers, though.
Nauticrawl might also be worth a look.

Here's a couple of games I consider (at least kind of) similar. No remote-controlled drones, but you interact with ship systems and there is the survive alone in a space ship thing. With a dash of... un-ease :) (Mostly in Far-Out). I haven't played these in a long time btw.

Far-Out. No longer on Steam, but it's on https://morseliot.itch.io/far-out, humblebundle[www.humblebundle.com] and indiedb.

There's no hand-holding in this game (might be frustrating in the beginning?). I'd recommend keeping a pen and paper handy, as there is some codes you may want to remember (different on each playthrough).

And Event[0] (with an AI chat system thing, which is it's gimmick but it's kind of cool imho):

https://store.steampowered.com/app/470260/Event0/

By the looks of things, maybe I ought to give Outer Wilds a second chance.

Airlock and air pressure system? Do I have to manually put on my space suit to go out? Also, I finished Outer Wilds' 2 endings and I absolutely loved it.

Yes and no? At least Event[0] have space walk (EVA) parts, and if memory serves (which it mightn't), have "air left" system (in the space suit). Air pressure not so sure, other than implied. I don't remember if Far-Out had it (it's a while since I played it). I think it did?

Sold. I looked into Event already and it wasn't really something I was looking for. Especially because I already have Duskers.

Great. Now I have Alien Isolation PTSD! The ship looks so much like the inside of Sevastopol!

Lol! Uh... I mean, sorry? :P

Well I did say there were some "un-ease" included? Though I didn't remember Event[0] was that similar to AI. But I guess there might be a somewhat unnerving atmosphere, especially if you've recently played AI.

Btw, my one and only reason for buying Alien Isolation was VR (at launch, I had Oculus DK2 then). But I did not dare play through it lol. And the parts I did, was about maybe ~50% in VR, rest in plain old 2D display! That game is intense! Almost too good for it's own good!

(Confession time: I finished it some years later with a trainer... that reactor core was hectic!)

I'm not really into horror either.. mostly in it for the sci-fi escapism.
