Best tennis games out there at the moment are the indies ones, namely Full Ace & Tennis Elbow, i'd advise to get both and settle with the one you prefer, both are good games.
Differences being TE is an older game and had more time to mature, its gameplay is about the same now since several years, pretty stalled and not much evolving. There is very good mods featured by the community. It's pretty easy to learn/get in and has a pretty long learning curve to compete with the best online. But it also shows some limitations when you reach a good/high level of play, potentially playing infiinite like rallies without the ability to finish/close a point with a decisive winner, and a poor implementation of stamina wich can also lead to a pretty dull gameplay at times. But it's still a great game with a larger community, wich can bring hundred hours of gameplay fun.
Full Ace on the other hand is a younger game reborn and rehaul with this recent steam release, providing better animations than before, improved gameplay. FA is very sim oriented and has a steep learning curve, and you mostly won't ever find yourself tied in infinite rallies there, shot mechanics are pretty sensitive, positional / timing wise, wich can lead often to unforced errors, or decisive/winner shots when you get everything right. In the modding area, FA also provides good features character wise, and will soon bring animation modding, wich sounds great for the future. FA has currently more regular updates than TE, the gameplay mechanics/tweaking evolving pretty fast. Also, In my opinion Full Ace features the best ball physics, about variety of trajectories produced and realism.
Both games online play is pretty stable, and both deal decently with latency. Both provide a good featured solo career mode too, but i can't much comment on it as my main focus is online play.
So to summarize, both are worth it, TE being more mature, FA having more potential in the long run in my opinion.
