If you ignore the fact the actual campaign map and diplomacy system are 1000 times better than the broken and simplistic rubbish that came before it.
Can't speak for others, obviously, but personally I'd like to see plenty more characters, since its this period's forte, in my opinion. Whenever somebody starts talking to me about the 3K period in China, I'd start thinking about the famous generals and characters. There is a storytelling factor that I've read a lot of people are expecting from the game, which would be great if it could be improved: more events, historical/quest battles (I imagine something like Warhammer does when you take the quests for artifacts on main characters), more interactivity between the generals.
So far the content created for this game hasn't disappointed me much yet (Except Nanman and a select few things in 8P). The diplomacy is pretty good and there is a decent variety of characters (Except Shu and Han factions) but a weak point of the game, and I'd imagine as of the reasons MP is dead in it, is the lack of interesting rosters: there is just too many similar units and battles devolve into mob fights, where usually numbers or missile superiority win the day.
If it wasn't for Radious I'd find the battles and factions pretty boring. And even then, I dislike most rebalance attempts made by modders. I'd just like an improved vanilla experience in this regard, and more interesting elements on the factions you are able to choose (more units, better bonuses, etc.)
