Shogun 2 or Three kingdoms?
So I like historical theme games.
I tried Warhammer 1 and 2 and frankly, I'm not a fan of fantasy settings in total war games.
I like this time Warring States period in China's history.
When it comes to gameplay/fun which one would you recommend?
Thanks for the info,
Cheers,

Shogun 2 the full package (Rise of the Samurai + Fall of the Samurai) is a solid game to these days that will provides you with huge play and content. The other DLCs are more for playing with added factions.

Three Kingdoms is also worthy the play but is a far different game from Shogun 2 due to added complexity in the campaign map mechanics - there's a lots going on and you'll spend a good portion of time on the campaign map menus. Whereas in Shogun 2 the campaign mechanic is far more straightforward and simpler. There're pros and cons for this.
Battles are pretty much on pair to each others.

Consider also that Three Kingdoms is a recent game and requires a beefy PC to run smoothly. I also would suggest to start with the standard game and adds DLC later on.
Both are great games and a good choice in any case with Three Kingdoms requiring to invest more time learning the game mechanics than Shogun 2.

I own shogun 2 and just wondering if it worth buying three kingdoms.
Are TK campaign game mechanics interesting/ are they adding to the immersion?

I would recommend watching "Serious Trivia" on youtube. He has played both games and in a variety of ways when it comes to TW3K. Lots of mods are available for TW3K. I have found it to be more involved as Orange Box said above. The diplomacy was greatly improved and the various factions allow for more than just one play style. Mods even increase the variety.

In that case if you look up at a Youtube channels as mentioned above or even go to Total War Academy and watch what are some of the main mechanic of the game that would gives you a good information.
If you prefer TW historical games then I suggest you should also take a look at TW Pharaoh.

I for one enjoyed Three Kingdoms, but I also like playing tall kingdoms in CK3 so I'm a crazy person.

If you like Shogun 2 but want one where diplomacy isn't completely insane, and like building up your faction and it's territory, TK might be for you. Records sounds like more of your speed than romance if you prefer the history to fantasy.

But like others said, go peak at some game play and that'll be better advice than us.

3K is much more complex and can be fun for a thousand hours. Shogun 2 gets stale after a hundred. But both games are excellent.

three kingdoms shogun has always been boring and I don't understand what the hype is or was 12 years ago

this may be it, most people are casuals who don't play these games for more then 100 hours, they generated hype

I would say 3K for its complexity and options. One thing I really appreciate about the game is that you can choose from several starting dates, which in turn changes the starting positions for some factions. These are however sometimes tied to a DLC, if memory serves...

There are always some things that could be improved and sadly won't because there is no more support for the game, but you can mod them (like I did regarding general abilities in Records).

Shogun has better battles, guns, naval battles (albiet pretty bad ones), and is incredibly challenging. Diplomacy consists of selling trade agreements and military access.

both. First thing I thought about after completing Shogun 2 campaign was "damn I wish there was a Chinese total war" and here it is. Just play shogun first and this game second.

I am more CK3 guy so 3K campaign complexity wins for me.

i have both game and all DLC hahaha but 100% both game are awsome !
Can't go wrong with either it really depends what setting you like, 3k remains my personal favourite coz of how well done the diplomancy system is. I say try it. Altho its been abandoned halfway by the devs its still a really enjoyable total war experience!

I would recommend Three Kingdoms with the King Wu mod personally. 3k has the best diplomacy and espionage system in the series if you enjoy that kind of thing. It is more fantastical though since your generals kill 100s of enemies each battle. Shogun is a great historical title, but can get stale/repetitive for myself . Whereas 3k with the Wu mod is an amazing sandbox for every campaign.
