Then buy a new mouse.
Muhahaha, good luck man because nobody cares.
"WASD" is an answer to the question "How do you move the map around without the mouse?"
I didn't ask that question.
"Buy a new mouse" is an answer to the question "How can I get a mouse with a middle mouse button?"
I didn't ask that question either.
I asked a very specific question. There are two possible answers to the question I asked:
1. It is not possible to click-and-drag the map around without a middle mouse button.
2. It is possible to click-and-drag the map around without a middle mouse button, and here's how...
Anything else besides one of those two answers isn't an answer to the question I asked, and is therefore a waste of time.
At this point it's obvious that #1 is the correct answer: There isn't a way to do it.

Have neither tried, was just curious. Would probably pick the simpler but more recent github version. Both have button cording, what you were looking for.
(ie. emulate a different mouse action, by clicking button A followed by button B)
On the other hand, Logitech has 3 buttons on their devices for at least 22 years now and you can manipulate the buttons with their own software :)
edit: I think back in the day, there were even games were you could scroll using both buttons.
You could further use google with the information given, ie. "mouse button cording software window 10/11".
Or check for recent reddit posts....
Guess you'll find more reasonable answers than in a game board, which is abandoned for quite some time and only occasional people check in here...
just sayin'
Second one looks like it reassigns pre-existing mouse buttons to other functions. Not sure, though. I confess I am generally mystified by github's layout.
Yeah, but I'm pretty picky about my trackballs. I'm looking for a trackball that:
1) Isn't wireless.
2) Has a scroll ring around the ball instead of a scroll wheel for the thumb.
3) Has a middle mouse button, or at least a third button which can be remapped to it.
4) Has a finger-controlled trackball instead of a thumb-controlled trackball.
There are trackball products out there which will give you three of those (like the one I'm already using), but there isn't one out there that gives you all four.
Usually the lack of a middle mouse button isn't a problem, because many games will allow you to remap it in the options to something else, like CTRL-Click or whatever. This is one of the few games (that I own, at any rate) that requires MMB for certain functions and doesn't let you remap that function to something else.
I always google first, but my google searches had the phrase "total war three kingdoms" in them. What I was really hoping for was some kind of config.ini file or similar, that could be edited to provide this functionality.
In my experience, game-specific subreddits are less useful for technical questions than the game-specific discussion board on Steam. Moreover, Creative Assembly just dropped a new DLC for TW:Warhammer III, and posts in /r/totalwar that aren't about Omens of Destruction are having a hard time getting noticed.
In any case, I really appreciate the fact that you took some time out of your day to answer the question I actually asked. Thanks a million.
