So, my opinion on the DLC:
Nanman is better than Yellow Turbans. Yes, Nanman are strong, but mostly they are kinda annoying to fight on their own land. They are fun to play as, although their campaign is pretty short if you only want to achieve the victory conditions. I would definitely suggest playing them in 190.
The Yellow Turbans in MoH are only strong when they are the AI. This is because when the DLC first launched, they were so weak that you didn't have to do anything, the other warlords would destroy them (as they did historically). In an attempt to balance them they were made too strong. I still like the DLC, it's a start that's unlike any other.
World Betrayed is good for the Lü Bu and Sun Ce factions. For most other factions, the start is just slightly different from the base game.
Fates Divided is kinda weak IMO. If you want to play Yuan Shao, Cao Cao or Liu Zhang I will recommend it. The start date itself is alright, but could have had more content.
Eight Princes is the worst by far. Stay away.
I think negative reviews for the later DLC mostly come from the relatively long waiting period before release. Nanman and Fates Divided took 6 months each, and I think some people expected more. For the Nanman it's also more people being annoyed to fight against them rather than playing as them.
Adding to what he said, Eight Princes is not that bad. But it's not high on the priority list either. It had a poor reception because it was the first DLC to launch (Yellow Turbans was a preorder bonus) and it had a lot of backlash. Eight Princes is the end of the 3K period and a lot of players were angry that CA made the decision to move the storyline to the end so suddenly.
Eight Princes makes up for a couple of interesting Records Mode campaigns, but that's it. It got the faction council on the last update, but that's about it. 3K is special because of its varied roster of characters, and 8Princes only gives you... well, the Sima princes. Which are okay, but don't differ a lot from each other.
I also like Mandate of Heaven, but it still has bugs left. It's an interesting starter date, though. You can play as the Emperor or the original Yellow Turban rebellion. The original turbans have a very feast or famine campaign.
Be warned though, Turbans (base game or MoH) don't get any council, spies, diplomacy and the pretty things from Han factions (like unique armors).
I have a little knowledge Three Kingdoms lore and I do not care about unique characters, and I play only in records mode (like classic Total War)
Eight Princes is alternative campaign with setting similar to Shogun II campaign . but more complex,
There is different reaserch system, aligment mechanic, interesting changes but nothing revolutionary
Anyway there is nothing wrong or broken with this DLC
As best dlc, i would say that a world betrayed is by far the most interesting to get.
