The problem with the Eight Princes

I know it is too late now but I just want to say why the Eight Princes didn’t really hit the mark for me.

There are a lack of legendary characters with unique artwork and a lack of unique weapons and items outside of the Eight Princes.

I like collecting legendary characters with unique artwork and unique weapons and items in both Romance and Records mode, nothing is quite like showing that I defeated Guan Yu by equipping his weapon on my chosen champion.

So the lack of such things made the Eight Princes quite boring to me.

I would have much rather we got a campaign for the later stage of the three kingdoms with Cao Pi (Sima Yi) vs Liu Shan (Zhuge Liang) vs Sun Quan ( Lu Xun) instead of the Eight Princes.

They both serve a similar purpose, a new cast of important characters, in a new stage of the war, at least the former is still within the three kingdoms period and can reuse some legendary generals, while the latter is a different time period entirely in the Jin dynasty and cannot reuse legendary generals.

Think about it, a campaign with Cao Pi (later replaced by Cao Rui) who is far more cunning and ambitious than Cao Cao, but lacks his charisma and foresight, while Liu Shan is vastly more timid and weak compared to Liu Bei and navigating his court to get him to do anything is a challenge in itself, while Sun Quan must navigate in an environment where Shu-Han doesn’t really like them because of Jingzhou, Guan Yu’s death, and the defeat of Liu Bei by Lu Xun, and both Cao Pi and Zhuge Liang (Liu Shan) wants to conquer all.

We could even see Sima Shi and Sima Zhao as legendary generals, as the three kingdoms fight to unite all of China.

Anyways I hope Three Kingdoms 2 correct the mistakes of this game by focusing on the Three Kingdoms period and more legendary characters and unique items to collect!

That was a big problem with the original game, let's be real.

Inconsistent quality; Xiahou Yuan was drawn in MS Paint??

Random artwork; Lady Mi (a footnote in 3k history) gets unique artwork but great generals like Lü Meng don't? He is even featured in one of the historical battles scenarios for goodness sake.

Incorrect characters with no unique artwork inherit factions, like Dong Min and Lady Wu, which pulls you out of the immersion.

I really like 3k Total War but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ were the developers lazy.
