Commandery and towns
Going to start out by saying I am new. This is my second go at the story mode and I am trying to plan my commandery and towns, part of that is deciding which towns to conquer. Is there a way to know, before you take a town, what buildings can be built in that town?

Any building can be built in the main settlement (town). These buildings are limited by the level of the town/city (higher level ~ more slots) and synergize with the resource counties in the same commandery.

Each commandery has a settlement and one or more resource specialty counties, like iron mines, salt mines, farmlands, jade mine, etc. which have unique income bonuses and other effects. These counties can be upgraded too just like "buildings".

If you are interested in commandery X, click on any settlement, town or resource, and the building panel will pop up. You can kind of tell by the art what buildings have been built, and you can certainly tell how many building slots there are in the town. If you don't own any bit of the commandery, the ruling lord's face will cover up the settlement icons and it can be hard to tell.

If you DO own one county in a commandery, you can right-click the county you own and that brings up the building panel. There you can see all the buildings that can be built in that entire commandery.

thank you very much glad I was not missing anything. Think I need to continue to play and watch videos. I was trying to plan for an industrial layout, but you really can only do that if your current commandery can give industrial gold. Its not for future commanderys, unless you get lucky and you can build industrial buildings there.
Hi there! When looking at a Commandery, the most important factor is the minor settlements attached to it. If you want to make a Commercial powerhouse, it's only worth doing if that Commandery has tea plantations/ports/jade from its minor settlements. Those "+50% income from commerce" bonuses apply commandery-wide. For Industry, you'll be looking for Copper/Iron/Jade mines. If you can find a Commandery with two or even three industrial minor settlements, that's your breadbasket for Industry. I might be misremembering, but I think Runan (near Yuan Shu's starting position) has heaps of it.

The exception to this is when the major settlement of a Commandery is on the coast or on a river. In those cases a unique port building can be constructed in the major settlement, which can give food, commerce, or a mixture of the two.

awesome, thank you. I did find this video as well - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BoqVpfX2j0 it helped explained things as well. I learned you can just knock down the buildings and build whatever you want as well. But, if you have complementary buildings it is best to build around those.
