HOW DO I UNLOCK DONG ZHUO???

Ive been trying to start a campaign as Dong Zhuo cus hes a big villain from the books I really like.

What am I missing? If there's an in-game method to unlocking him I can't figure out what that it. Aiming the mouse on his character in the faction roster gives me nothing except what date in the timeline he's available, which I absolutely have access to.

Google only gives me cheats which I DONT want. What's going on here? I feel dumb. Am I dumb or is this just total war being cryptic and frustrating again?

You need to defeat his army in battle or reach the rank of Emperor with a character of your choice.

God, ive been trying to beat his army several times but I cant even GET to him before the game decides to kill him before I even get there. Turn 11, every time, the event pops up to where he just dies like he does in the book.

So I guess my only option is to become emperor then?

Or else, what can I do to get my army to him before the game kills him? Ive tried making a b-line to him, but the terrain slows down my army unless I take territory and then my enemies south of me take my territory. I feel like the devs are screwing with me.

use the bandit queen cause she starts close and kill one of his generals in a battle without wiping out the army and he might take there place then just beat the army again. easiest way besides emperor and you only have to play it for 10 - 12 turns

It's definitely not easy to do it, and alot of it is really just RNG. It's easier to just play to Emperor and do it that way.

I killed him today. My first campaign. Turn 230 or something, lol. I have turned off character aging and he had survived all this time. Got an achiev for it, that's why I realized it was a thing x)

Some people used to share save games where he is in.

Problem is, the AI doesn't always make him a general so often its pure luck.

Fun Fact: Dong Zhou is not playable if you're in offline mode, even if you unlocked him.

It is possible, if you manage to go online and save the company, you will be able to go offline and load it there
