Is the Dong Zhou death event not guaranteed?

I've done a few runs of Sun Jian campaign, all had Diao Chan sent to Dong Zhou but not all of them had Dong Zhou die later on, does this event have a failure chance or is this a glitch?

It's random. I have had Dong Zhou die on turn ten, and sometimes on turn one hundred. Never had a campaign where he didn't die though.

There’s always a low chance that the AI will not follow the story/history for any event line. In some cases, this means big D gets to live to a ripe old age. Typically though, the AI will follow the story/history (so long as the event line hasn’t been killed off).

RNG Dong Zhuo can survive but it is more common for him to die I don't know the exact odds but I think its about 20%.

Ive heard of duplicate heros and all sorts of weird stuff happening with this

When the game came out, there was an event that always show up to follow the story which meant to kill dong zhuo or keep him alive. But now I guess is rng but I have not play that start date in awhile. Many event are bug right now and CA left it in this state.

This reminds me of the events in Attila: Total War.

usually dong zhuo will die but once in blue moon the AI do not follow the story, same with sun jian (although sun jian is rarer)

As far as i know, they fixed the dublicate Zhuge Liang bug ages ago and i had it not happen or hearing it happen since.

i havent seen any dupes on the latest update so i assume its gone. but to second what everyone is saying, the events are weird, they dont always play out. ive done lu bus campagin about 100 times in various different ways, and some of events just plain never happen, but i ALWAYS get the "lu bu strings the bow" event on year 200

I think dupes is only common in 182 campaign right now like He yi dupes and zhang yan dupes (last time i play as liu hong i got 3 zhang yans, 1 the original copy, 1 from yuan shu faction from some reason and 1 just pop out of nowhere from han empire)
