What is worth getting of DLCs?
I am not interested in different time campaigns, just want the standard main campaign +. From what I know there is different time periods to pick etc?
So what package is worth getting, just main? Or something like the Emperor edition?
Or in general, what DLC is good and what are bad? Hard to know based on the reviews tbh.

Of all the DLC's, Furious Wilds is my personal favourite. It's what a Saga should be to me. Struggle with the other Nanman for control of the jungle, then rise up and raid the Han.

In general, there are two types of DLCs: New factions for the main campaign and new start dates.

The two new factions are the Nanman and the Yellow Turbans. They play rather different from the main game factions, which can be a nice change, although they have fewer faction mechanics and thus feel less fleshed out.

The new start dates are 184, 194 and 200 (the main game is set in 190).
184's starting situation is very different from the main game and usually plays out very differently.
194 is closest to the main game and thus fairly similar, but it contains the factions Sun Ce and Lü Bu, which have very fun and unique mechanics.
200 is in my opinion the least interesting start date, as it's dominated by three major factions: Cao Cao, Yuan Shao and Sun Ce, with little variance as two who gets the upper hand. It also contains a few new units for Cao Cao and Yuan Shao, but they don't need them since they are are two of the strongest factions anyway.

I always suggest not to get any DLC until you played the game for a bit and want more content. The base game has plenty of content anyway and if you play one of the main factions in the main start, the DLC adds nothing. If you like the game, just get some DLC in the next sale.

Just adding from the above post.
The DLC new start dates (plus factions/playable heroes) are:

- Fates Divided (Begin at 200 CE, new units for Cao Cao, Yuan Shao and Liu Yan)
- A world Betrayed (194 CE start date new events and story missions)
- Mandate of Heaven (Begin a campaign in 182 CE just before the Yellow Turban rebellion)

Why not? Afterall they offer the most value and shake things up for a fresh new feel and have many interesting factions.

You should imo get the base version and then A world betrayed and the Yellow Turbans and maybe 8 Princes and Fates Divided.

Mandate of Heaven doesn't seem to work very well when you are playing a Han faction. Fates Divided I don't like much because the starting powers are too big.

A world betrayed features Lu Bu and Sun Ce among other things which are 2 extremely cool campaigns. Yellow Turbans play differently from Han factions and are therefore a must. 8 Princess can be interesting, I enjoyed 2 campaigns there, was worth the money.

A furious wild is... I dislike it. The Nanman are kinda weak and feature gameplay mechanics that I do not like. Furthermore invading them is so awful and you're so far away from the north where the main action is... but I guess it can be fun.

Thing is the special editions are only worth it if you want the Nanman.

I just never really cared for it, I dunno how to explain it, but in all other games that have different start dates, I keep to the main one. So that is just why I am going with the assumption I will do the same here.

If you specifically want to keep to the main start date, than the only DLC's you'd want are Yellow Turbans and Furious Wilds, as they add additional factions. Base game has Han Chinese (the majority of characters) and Bandits.

Weird but ok. So you did not play Empire Divided for Rome 2 or Charlemagne for Attila? Those are some of the best addons made for TW games... and A world Betrayed is also one of the best I'd say.

These other campaigns aren't of a lesser experience.

Nope I didn't, I only got Chalemagne for the Medieval mod if I remember right. I for some reason just don't feel like playing them.

You should be happy with the main game then, like in Rome II DLCs are there but not essential to the main play.
