Do you use Sabre Infantry?
I usually use the heavy armor for my frontlines but I might change this and try using REGULAR infantry for once for the front. Can everyone see my game as Cao Cao? They arent bad but in a 3 vs 1 battle I would rather use Sun Jians ax mercinary infantry instead not cus of axes but cus I think they are using a heavier armor not sure (gold circle?) I have to check stats again.

Going around my Dragon tabbed infantry army setup because we all know not everyone can be a Dragon tabbed infantry part of Emperors elite.

I would never want to be part of or work in some mercinary group full of lower grade infantry or wannabe infantry types. What a joke might as well retreat and fight Turban armies instead. Its like that same ashigaru vs samurai conversation again like holy crap. These guys are weak and a waste of time. Waste of sperm.

Im an infantry general myself and trying not to judge the regular normal Sabre Infantry units.

I generally fork out the cash for the Jian sword guards if I want a more defensive approach or those two handed sword guys if I want to go more aggressive. As soon as I unlock pearl dragons those become my infantry of choice, ♥♥♥♥♥♥ love them.

Tbh Axe Band/mercs is prob best imo they have a strong vs shield

I do not. I subscribe to the idea that cavalry decides the tides of battle, so I mostly use spearmen to watch out against enemy cavalry and hold my line while my own cavalry are doing the flanking.

Infantry vs infantry action seems too costly and slow to me, so I wouldn't rely on them to deal damage. It makes it harder to attack a walled settlement tho, but in that case I usually just let them sally out and fight me on the field. If they don't, well, they starve.

I sometimes use them when I need to fill the ranks of my side armies and want to save a little bit of money. But otherwise I don't rely on them too much.

i would personally never use dragon units as they cost far to much especiallly for something that can just be killed by an archer cosisting of 1/10 the price.
the sabre unit you unlock through research (i believe infantry) i good-ish for most of the game and is debatebly better than the jian sword gaurd and cheeper, the 1st tier militie sabre is okay but it is militia tier so its point isnt to be viable mid to late game but to be cheap as possible and carry the weapon it says it does.

a front line of anything but spear gaurd or ji militia isnt really what id advice.

If you're talking about the Sabre Infantry you unlock 3 deep in the purple tree, you're missing out because they're one of the best non-dragon units for sentinels in the game.

Another thing to keep in mind is the AI will always fire arrows at the closest unit, no matter the difficulty level. So I usually recruit 1-2 spear guards for turtle formation up at the very front, and the sabre infantry is great for right behind it as they dont need to worry about blocking arrows, and if they do they have a solid 65% blocked chance. Couple this with the shield wall formation for charge negation, and they are a very solid, good priced unit that is effective against just about anything.

I don't want to be that guy but this is incorrect. At least on Legendary AI archers will not fire at turtle formation just like they won't fire at generals unless they're against an only general army. The reason why Sabre infantry is very good as a front line is because they have 95% ranged block chance with shield wall on, letting the AI waste arrows on them.

Onyx Dragons are worth their upkeep, if anything they are OP for the price but all the other Dragon units come way too late and their effectiveness does not justify their cost except for Azure Dragons which are probably performing just a bit above their costs vs the AI and exactly for their cost vs human player.

Sabre Infantry are great for storming walls and fortified camps but... not that useful in pure battle though still more useful than Ji. I would always take Spear Guards first but Sabre Infantry would probably my second base infantry choice. I like Heavy crossbows, Onyx Dragons, Protectors of Heaven, and Azure Dragons a bit more but would take Sabre Infantry over all the other purple infantry unless having huge budget near end campaign.

Overall, once heavy crossbows are available there is very little reason to have much infantry vs most of the AI armies though an AI with all Sabre Infantry or Spear Guards can resist crossbows long enough to cause a lot of casualties.
