why is my windows defender getting virus alerts from re-downloading this game?

well, it seems to only be a issue with just this game because i just reinstalled troy total war and i didn't get any alerts

Just bought the game in sales too.
Windows defender detects a trojan in "Total War THREE KINGDOMS\data\variants.pack".
Trojan:Win32/Casdet!rfn
defender blocks the game from launching I assume.

Mine is doing the exact same thing. You can allow it on your device through defender, but you will have to verify files.

Brief update: I hadn't played the game in a good couple of years; had some mods that used way back when. Unsubscribed from them now, but several seemed to had been fully taken over by Chinese authors/modders? I'm not going to reinstall the game to try again, but yeah. I'll be honest, I'm slightly worried.

Finally Sega support answered me, I'll copy paste the answer :


Dear Customer,

thank you for contacting SEGA Support your patience n this case.

We have received information that Windows Defender had an update and falsely detected files as dangerous.

We can reassure you, that the game does not contain a virus. You can try to isolate the file to install the game.
Please note, that the isolation of the file can interfere with the game.

Alternatively, you can exclude the Steam folder from Windows Defender.
