Don't get put off by the way he words his mod description, he has a real talent for modding. Just read through his patch notes to see how much time he's put into it.

And knowing the developers have abandoned this game there's no hope at least not for me with this game. Good luck enjoying this.
Its Shogun II for me. This game cant compare after trying both.
Thanks again suggestions mods
I've tried going back to the older games, but they just don't hold my interest like they used to. Three Kingdoms is superior in terms of game mechanics, engine performance, graphics, game balance (Wu Xing), quality of life features and diplomacy.
I started a Shogun 2 campaign about three weeks ago and only got about two hours in before quitting.
I agree on graphics, mechanics and engine performance and diplomacy. But not on game balance. Three kingdoms is good beside battles. And since battle are half the fun for me and i don't auto resolve a lot, That hurts the game to much for my taste. Shogun 2 and fall of the samurai have the 1 hp system and synced combat animations + actual fun naval combat in Fall of the Samurai expansion and i think graphic wise it actually looks more realistic then newer titles on higher settings with all the smoke and fire and unit details are topnotch even to this date :D
I would like three kingdoms if it had different combat all around. I don't like stuff like 100% block chance against arrows by just clicking a button on certain units. It feels too "gamey" for me. But its just a personal opinion. And im sure lots of people enjoy the game or like the time period and such making it fun none the less.
+ I never understood why people say the performance is bad in older games. I just went into the config files for the Shogun II and put on all multi threads/cores and change video memory for unlimited. I'm having over 120 fps in all types of battles and on campaign map without drops at all. I think maybe i have both high single core and multi core CPU so it works like a charm on both older and newer Total war titles.
My favourite older game Is Attila, which has terrible performance. But I enjoy many other things about it.
With the mods I’ve listed above, the battles in 3K are good. So yes, it’s personal choice.
I can’t stand the battle UI in Shogun 2. When looking at all my units in battle, from higher up, I can hardly tell them apart. Now I remember why I used to just auto resolve. Rome 2 had a similar problem. I need to know clearly which unit class is which to make a good tactical decision.
And also, there’s no UI scale, so with a 1440p monitor, the UI is too small in general for me.
So in 2023 unfortunately Shogun 2 is no longer a game I have fun playing.
For 3k, the devs includes the Records mode, after a lot of the normal total war game fans where displeased with the trailers and streams, where you saw this single unit generals wiping out whole units with "magic attacks", but instead of actually creating a fun mode, thats more in line with older total war titles, records mode was just romance mode, with deleted features.
And nothing really was added, for the missing features, or balance.
Like while some skills like magic attacks that kills whole units got deleted, other skills, that are more reasonable and made more sense like inspiring your men´for a morale boost, or give them a short charge bonus got also deleted.
They also quickly ignored the records mode, in terms of patching and balance after a few updates....
And while some later ideas, like the faction council sounds great on paper, the way it was implemented was like an AI agent spam 2.0 as the Ai is made to act against the player, you constantly have every spring really bad events.... and while its great if you play Cao Cao, his scheme mechanic is actualy a: Destroy this fraction first, at all cost, if you play not as him...
But 3k was, as far as I know, one of their most selling games, they just made quite a few bad choice dlc and post wise.
3k is no bad game and once you got used to the super hero generals, it can be fun too. But I think it says also a lot of the game, when you see youtubers playing on higher difficulty, mostly using the heros, to win battles.
Even the duell mechanic could be used for a possible shogun 3, I think.
Instead of having the Yari, Katana, or Bow Hero units in the field directly, you could have them as a character in the army, that gains experience etc. and could duell an enemy ! before the battle ! like in the intro of shogun 2 and based on the duell result you get a few boni or mali.
Some mechanics like the improved diplo and some qol features work well and I hope they got some good experience for a next historical total war game.
Are those mods, and the others you listed in this thread, compatible with each other?
