I'd perhaps reload and make sure you didn't miss a message or a change in satisfaction.
Can you see if he got a grudge against your faction now that he's in Dong's?
If he got a grudge, it's likely his satisfaction tanked (gained rivalry, hostile spy actions, faction council actions etc).
There's also no story precedent for Ma Chao to join Dong Zhuo's faction (which shouldn't even exist by that point).
There're a few things that could have caused this.
Were you vassal to the Dong faction? There is a faction council mission that the AI also has access to that can allow the overlord to 'kidnap' the heir of one of their factions.
Ma Chao's satisfaction was high at the time he left, but at any point his satisfaction dipped he could have been available as a turncoat to other factions since he does not have any particular 'loyal' traits.
It's possible that he was taken as a spy and then recalled on the turn he disappeared.
That is probably my case. Yes I was a vassal of Dong. And yes Ma Chao had an "X" with his daddy, and yes his satisfaction was low many years before.
Dang it, I should not have trusted Dong.
Thank you very much for your evaluation.
And also thank Lain for your time and answer.
