Do you need to play as Cao Cao to get "Son of the Tortoise"?
What if you were to bring Cao Ang or Cao Pi into your faction through a diplomatic marriage while playing as Tao Qian or someone else?

Then name them as your heir and have 'em take over before you hit 500 prestige?

Not really relevant.
The achievement I'm wondering about says, "Playing as the child of Cao Cao, proclaim yourself emperor."

I'm gonna start a new campaign this afternoon as Tao Qian in Mandate of Heaven and try to get Cao Ang (Cao Cao's firstborn) through marriage before Cao Song dies. I'll make him my heir and see how things go after Tao Qian dies.

It's certainly an interesting thing to try. I've already got the achievement so I won't be able to test it myself. But let me know whether or not it works.

Well... I played a game as Tao Qian in the MOH start.
When Cao Ang came of age, I quickly snapped him up and made him my heir. (Cao Pi was never born in this game).

I originally played a slower game where I deliberately held back my armies and allowed the Yellow Turban Rebellion to thrive and defeat many of the factions up north. For the most part, things worked out well for me.

I put together a pretty satisfying cast of characters in my court: Zheng Jiang (one of my favorites!), Zhang Yan, Taishi Ci, Guan Yu... Zhao Yun and Zhang Fei were both killed, but I recovered Zhang Fei's weapon.

I ended up becoming Emperor in Autumn of 198 with Cao Ang as my faction leader (Tao Qian died of natural causes around Turn 70ish).

Went from having only Yuan Shao as my vassal one turn... To just about everyone in the world willing to cheaply be my vassal after I declared myself emperor.
Also a little bit odd that despite being a Governor, Tao Qian's factions immediately declared themselves as the empire of Lu. Rather than letting three other factions declare themselves and then capturing one of their seats.

No achievement. Darn.

The family tree is a little weird... There are a lot more characters there than there ought to be. But Cao Ang is still clearly the 'Child of Cao Cao'.

I wonder if things would've been different if I'd tried it in the 190 start.
The family trees would be cleaner at least.
But I might've had to go to war with Cao Cao over the death of Cao Song.

The death of Cao Song event fired off in my 182 start... But there was never a war declaration over it.

Maybe it works if cao cao inherits first, then the son?
