The Emperor always runs away!
I've no idea what to do. I've restarted my campaign 3-4 times. Had a lot of happiness, special Dong Zhou's resource and other things, but he ALWAYS runs away. What should I do to NOT let this happen to me? Thanks!

You could of read the pop-up, the game tells you directly why it happens...

You need to reach a high enough prestige. It's not about what rank you are compared to the AI, but the actual rank you have unlocked. Just below King I believe is the minimum to maintain him.

So, to reiterate;

You need to be high ranked in general to hold him.

Rank in comparison to the AI is irrelevant.

Town level is irrelevant.

Income, character level, turn time etc. is irrelevant.

You need to hold a high enough rank (one below King If I recall) to hold him. Nothing else.

But in that way I would lose the Empire as my puppet. Is there a way to keep it in my hands?

I think you cant do anything about it, he just runs away randomly as far as i know.

I have played one Dong Zhou campaign and the child emperor ran off to Sun Jian. I was making 5k a turn and was among the top three in faction strength. Haven't had much outside discussion w/ folks about if it's a common event or not. My reply was mostly in jest (keyword mostly because you are playing Dong Zhou after all).

Thanks a lot, folks. And that sucks, because it ruins all my plans in the game now :(

If you do not have the highest prestige on the map the emperor will always run, it's sort of bad design, they should change it so he can only escape to factions you border and only if you are militarily weak. With the new spy system they should add a spy option to spirit the emperor away.

think you need to get up to a 7 or 8 level town.

Thanks, lads! Any other ideas?

Has anybody any REAL idea how does that mechanic of escape works? Because I hate moments in games when I do not understand what's wrong with my actions and consequenses of them :c

I never had him running away from me prob like Drophazard said my prestige is always first and I tried. Prob try until you are strong enough in mid game. If you show us the situation maybe we can help more

The problem is that you can't do a lot, because this event happens in the 20 turn. I've tried 5 or 6 times and in the end I just let him go. I don't know what to do to not let him escape. I play penultimate difficult, and that means that we, players, can't do much to keep the Emp in our hands on this difficult-level :c

The emperor always flees because you have not enough prestige. Right now Sun Jian always conquers a lot of cities and because of this he always gains the control of the emperor. Thankfully, today's patch will fix this. They are adding some factions in the southern China :)
