River Battles? Please?
I know this has been talked about before. But, from what I know about Chinese georaphy and history, plus what very little I know about the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, I know that naval combat isn't a huge feature in the wars the game will be focusing on. Since it is about civil war essentially and besides some messing about in the sea of Japan, there is little nautical altercations possible. BUT! China at that time and thorughout history had some pretty rad boats to use and I was wondering if RIVER BATTLES would be a possibilty? After all the RTS component has been done before, the only major problem I can foresee is moving fleets up and down the rivers of China on the territory map.

What do you people think? I personally would really love to see water battles and the water-to-land mechanic in this game but is that the sentiment of the majority? And what other reasons for/against it are there?

There were naval battles, one of the major battles of the era was a naval battle and the holding of the waters was key to Wu's survival, so would be surprised if there isn't some sort of the naval combat system.

China does have quite a few really massive rivers that where big enough to bring a navel fleet through. I would find it very unlikely that Naval battles won't be included in the game, and in that case its also likely that the Kingdom of Wu will get some sort of faction bouns to naval combat.

Quite a few battles in the period were naval or mixed naval-and-land (usually dominantly land). Red Cliffs is the big, best-known of them, but really any attempted invasion of Wu prior to the fall of Shu had to cross the Yangtze, which is what kept Wu safe. The invasion of Jing province was an amphibious invasion. The eventual destruction of the Wu was due to a combined force of MASSIVE ships carrying thousands of troops each sailing down the Yangtze while another land force marched south of it. It would surprise me if we didn't get river warfare.
