Lu Bu - Very Hard
Hi, trying to coop and im trying to use Lu Bu on very hard, ive played Total War for years and am quite experienced at the games in general, ive never quite come across the severe gold penalties and disadvantage from turn 1 before, it seems any technique/tactic that is used, fails, ive tried following guides and videos that don't work how they say it will, and it just seems impossible to even start with this DLC faction/hero.

I would explain a break down of what ive done time and time again but i guess that would be pointless, ive manually battled the 2 small stacks and got great ratios etc still the negative gold is overwhelming tried tactics using guides for gold advantage none of it works, "swap lubus wife" you cant, no option to kick the current one out.

generally think the DLC is a miserable failure right now, quite disappointed, can anyone shed some light that has had some success? many thanks.

This is hard.
It is a failure.

Pretty sure with Lu Bu you're kinda expected to lose the war with Cao Cao and temporarily become a vassal of Liu Bei. Just hold out until that event fires, then use the opportunity to build up your strength.

Lu Bu is dlc is real fun and not difficult at all if you know how to play him. Definitely not broken. I completed legendary difficulty pretty easily. And no I didn't become anybody's vassal. There's also no need to panic when you get negative income as there are plenty of ways to tide over. For Lu Bu you'll really need to plan a few turns in advance. His momentum mechanic is a great advantage to have.

Just an fyi Lubu doesnt get the events in Co-op so you have to imagine guys hes not getting the 80% reduced cost of people and armies.

Just force march back to your city, Cao cao attacks you without the siege equipment, so he can't kill you in one turn, night battle him. You win cuz you are lu bu. Also duel anyone dumb enough to duel lu bu lol

Does this actually work?
Cuz Cao Cao doesn't have a trebuchet, but it's usually the army led by Xun Yu that leads the attack on Chen with Cao Cao reinforcing. And Xun Yu brings the siege equipment.

...

I started a new Lu Bu campaign with the intention of doing a different/silly start.
I opened the game as I always do by purchasing the Imperial Jade Seal from Sun Ce and then I did the battles against Xiahou Dun and Xiahou Yuan.
After that... I agreed to cooperate with Liu Biao (becoming his vassal). Liu Biao had over +13.0 opinion on accepting my vassalage so he paid me over 650g/Turn.
Becoming Liu Biao's vassal got me out of the war with Cao Cao, so he left Chen alone.
And joining Liu Biao also skewed my military strength up enough that many factions were willing to pay me loads for Non-Aggression and Military Access... including Cao Cao.
After doing all the deals, I broke down Lu Bu's expensive army and mustered up a new, much more affordable one and marched in the direction of He Yi with the intention of taking his land (and gaining He Yi's regeneration ability for Lu Bu).
Along the way I noticed that Liu Chong adopted Luo Jun (one of my faves from MOH), so I divorced Lady Yan and used the promise of her butt to bring Luo Jun into my court.
Cao Cao declared war on Liu Chong and wiped out his faction... Liu Chong joined my court and Lu Bu's army.
Currently working on finishing off He Yi and will either request release from Liu Biao at around Turn 20 or declare independence.
After that.... just take it one faction at a time. Pick a target and sever diplomatic deals with them.
At the moment though... everyone is trending up towards Best Friend.

thanks but your tactic doesnt work unfortunately, No option to vassal with Liu Biao only to mercenary contract He Yi, which doesn't stop cao cao attacking chen or at all. =[

Lu Bu it's the easiest campaign to beat on Legendary difficulty
Fried Noodles Apr 2, 2020 @ 12:00pm
You don't 'Become Vassal' with Liu Biao.
You 'Agree to Cooperate' or whatever. Basically the same thing, but he can suggest it even before hitting Marquis.
It definitely does work... that's what I did in my current Lu Bu game that I started a few nights ago.

Edit:

Well, well... I loaded up the game for the first time since 1.5.1 came out (was at work all day today!), and there have been some changes.

First of all, Lu Bu no longer has the ability to spend Momentum to Coerce in diplomacy.
And... Lu Bu is no longer able to seek vassalage under Liu Biao.
That's really weird.
Liu Biao is definitely allowed to vassalize people right from the start of the game... Unless they changed that.

Lu Bu campaign is really easy, managed it in under 100 turns on legendary.

Who is your coop partner? If they are Liu Bei it could be hampering your campaign (because the event probably wont fire for you to join him as a vassal).
Qwertykov Apr 2, 2020 @ 7:22pm
Why are you guys all lining up to be someones vassal? Its embarrassing and you really don't have have to..
