Sun Ce help
So I'm having huge problems with this campaign. Mainly income and replenishment. I have virtually no money and I have to constantly fight with a very low troop count. I've followed a guide I found but it's still really difficult way more so than almost any other campaign I've played.

Would anyone be able to help me through the first 20 turns of Sun Ce?

Is this the serious trivia one? I didn't realize he did a preview for this. He's one of the best youtube channels I've ever seen.

Anyone who does I'd be very grateful bc after many playthrough attempts I am having massive trouble with income and replenishment.

Now the Serious Trivia video was helpful but he really didn't go very far into the campaign instead he mostly talked about the lore and setup rather than getting to the first 20 turns or so.

I wish ItalianSpartacus did one of those videos bc he's right the point of divergence is often after the first 20 turns.

Anyway those who have had more success than myself how did you do it?

sun ce is about conquering. you need to get the technology that gives you 10% additional troop replenishing rate per turn. as for money, do not recruit too many units initially. once u conquer jian ye, u should be fine with money. before that when u r really short on money, try razing and try selling stuff to other warlords.
sun ce should be among the 3 easiest warlords in the DLC, together when liu bei and yuan zhao.

ok i'll try that. lol yea I'll be thr first one to tell you I'm awful at 3k campaign. Idk why I almost never have this kind of trouble in TW anymore but 3k for some reason stumped me.

To be honest I feel that the Sun Ce campaign wasn't especially well designed by CA as it requires a massive amount of min/maxing to even stay afloat, while you're constantly showered with more characters than you can really afford to keep. Part of the issue is that you start as a vassal to Yuan Shu who takes a fair chunk of your income every turn and is the main reason why you can barely afford a single army at the start of the campaign.

One thing I've heard be suggested as a means of improving it is to adjust the buff effects you get from completing missions from a recruitment discount to a lowered character and unit upkeep.

Oh glad I'm not the only one. Yea even with the bonuses he gets to character salary and the first reform you can get its still nowhere enough to get even close to zero. I'm constantly trying to stay UNDER losing 1k a turn selling everything and doing that support legitimacy but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ is it difficult bc you will inevitable take casualties which you can't afford the time to replace nor can you afford to stop conquering.

The first 20 turns make me wanna tear my hair out in frustration at having to manage all that bc I need to keep a lot of them for legacy of Wu stuff. Despite ranged getting nerfed the infantry still end up getting torn to shreds by the combination of towers and archers and I can't replace them so I have to always go into battle with a half strength, if im lucky, infantry line.

Sun Ce is hard in the early game but in the late game hes absurdly powerful once you turn reckless luck into GAIN per turn and get a few of those mission bonuses he just steamrolls everything. My opinion is that they need to somehow make his early game a little more lax and his late game a little weaker, I really had no issue with his campaign once I captured poyang and jianye, after doing this and declaring independance from Yuan Shu the game is EZ.

Firstly, I recommend giving away the imperial seal and giving yuan shu whatever he wants early on. You get huge penalities for treachery if you hold onto it, which will pretty much make everyone declare war on you. You can also dismiss han dang and Lady Wu if you want to save on a small amount of money. The first town you capture, go ahead and demolish all the buildings in it for gold. You won't be keeping it whether you hold onto the seal or not. If you kept the seal, go ahead and beeline for Xindu fishing port, if not, then pick up zhou yu before going for xindu fishing port. Then, go ahead and conquer the poyang region for the industry, it'll be your income for now. When you conquer the far east region of poyang, try to sign a non agression with Zhang something and his treacherous master liu biao. You want to focus on the reckless luck regions first. Namely taking out liu yao, yan baihu, that area north, and than wang langs region. at around 196-7. Yuan Shu should decide to make himself emperor and you can betray him at that time for a much smaller diplomatic penalty.

keep in mind that you should hold onto xindu fishing port for dear life as it'll be your trade route.
you can disband the red cavalry and get some cheap militia archers and some purple militias too. You should make the city with the fishing port attached to it as your captial( to the right, can't remember name), so you can defend one city and protect your trade routes.

you can also beat liu yao up but don't end him, make peace and then take her daughter as your heir, she has the clerk -2 construction thing. It's worth it to leave him alive with 1 settlement for later.

Wow dude you're such a chad. I wish I could be like you that never asks for anything ever.

After Xindu, consider taking Jianye instead of Poyang. Easier to defend and it's richer. Huang Zu will not DOW on you if you're in Jianye. Also, Jianye is port city for trade so you don't need Xindu fishing port anymore.

Key idea: use a small enough army when sieging cities to encourage the AI to sally forth and attack you. The campaign boils down to how well you use cavalry.

I appreciate that I'm going to give that a shot!
