You just charge the enemy, make them bunch up and blow everyone up with your treb.
Otherwise, the only thing I can think of is you have to counter enemy trebs.
Thanks for the tips Will. I guess what I am confused about is not the strategy itself, it is which factions to choose to be able to use the strategy. Do you have tips regarding my Sun Jian question?
night battles + guerilla deployment means you can start the fight flanking the enemy and close enough to engage immidiately
So, non of the faction heroes have this ability?
I believe strategists can always unlock this skill, and some other classes can have it pop up on their skill tree. Each general (asides from legendary characters) gets a basic skill tree for their class then has some skills based on their work history.. Down below their name is a former job title or occupation, such as "bandit" or "guerilla". That work history unlocks skills, sometimes specific assignments (causing attrition to local enemy armies for a guerilla as one example) and also gives a boost to their stats.
Easiest way to tell whether a general can get Guerilla deployment or not is from the campaign map. When you first get the notice in the lower left about "people of merit" left click that then right click a generals name, this will show you what skills they currently have and what they can unlock as they level up. Then of course you can hire the ones you like from the court screen.
No, I am too unfamiliar with the game that I don't want to start with Zheng Jiang, who everyone says his campaign run is very hard
These are very helpful tips, thanks. I guess the challenge is that generals skill tree is not linear. For example, two vanguards might not unlock vanguards taking the same time, because some of them have the guile ability further than others on their skill tree. Also, guile ability only unlocks guerilla-deploy ability for the generals retinue not faction wide.
Champions, vanguards, and strategists can all get the ability "guile" with unlocks guerilla deployment. Can usually get it by lvl 4-5 on a character if you're trying.
In my opinion the best factions are any with good infantry, especially heavy infantry. Heavy infantry's only weakness is being slow to get into position and get fighting, with guerilla deployment this isn't an issue.
I like to use 2 champions+1 vanguard armies that can all guerilla deploy, 12 infantry 6 cav. Good army for night battles too, and killing enemy characters.
Is there any other way to level up a character besides putting them in a lot of battles?
I def. didn't know about the assignment option. I saw it somewhere but I didn't understand what it is lol
