The developers did say characters will be able to switch allegiance. So, I am not surprised if Zhao Yun might switch his allegiance from Gongsun Zan to Liu Bei even if his former lord is still alive.
Likewise I know its a few years past the starting point here but im curious has to if Liu Bei will be able to recuit Zhuge Liang and if so how? Im hoping there will be a "scout" function or something that will let you be able to search for some of the more famous generals that show up later or something.
I think it will be interesting to see when one might be able to recruit Zhuge Liang as historical records dates his birth in 191 (1 year after the start date of the game). And for that matter a lot of other note worthy generals who took part in the later struggle.
For example, with Zhou Yun, it would seem weird (at least to me) to simply make an event where Zhou Yun leaves his lord for your Shu faction just by hitting yes on an event, when there are in-game mechanics for wooing opposing faction generals to your side already. I would (hope) there might be mechanics like Zhou Yun becoming friends with Liu Bei or Guan Yu, and maybe a few event modifier bonuses that improve recruitment, but not recruitment by fiat regardless of anything else you:ve done.
For example Zhou Yun was attracted to Liu Bei:s selflesslness and nobility--but what if you play as Liu Bei and make him a greedy murderous bastard? I:d hope those decisions would be reflected in your character, which would also attract different kinds of generals to your side than in the novel, although I may be hoping for TOO much here.
On the flipside, for an unaffiliated general like Zhuge Liang, it would make sense to add him via an event-- maybe Liu Bei, Guan Yu and Zhange Fe have to disappear for a whole turn unable to take any actions while they go woo Zhuge Liang or something.
I just hope they make some of the other officers as strong as they should be and not just a few main generals. Officers like Zhao Yun, Ma Chao, Zhou Tai, Xu Huang etc. should be absolute beasts
It'd be like making Total War: King Arthur and have Lancelot locked behind a paywall.
I hope that the various characters that are not assigned to a warlord or any potential non playable faction is in a general recruitment pool. Either every faction should have access to or if you control the region they were born in then you can recruit them to your faction for a few turns before they are released into the general general pool.
Turn 83 the event starts. By chance, which is high.
You can recruit him via event between turns 8 and 28 and by finishing a battle regardless if you win or lose and delegate the battle. You just have to complete it and it has a stupid low chance of happening. I had 15 campaign restarts before I got it to pop. This is also based on the actual coding, not just hear say.
The both are in the game.
