Total War: THREE KINGDOMS

Total War: THREE KINGDOMS

Statistiche:
Factions from RoTK Med2 mod
How come the community didn’t make a bigger deal out of Rise of Three Kingdoms mod for medieval 2 as a potential “what factions to expect” guide? Granted the mod starts in 194, but we can still extrapolate quite a lot. It would sure help the people that hear the title and imagine a game with 3 factions vying for power in a civil war.

Based on the factions in the mod (rewind back 4 yrs) and what I know so far, this is the list I’ve compiled:

Cao Clan- later Wei (Cao Cao)
Liu Clan- later Shu (Liu Bei)
Sun Clan-later Wu (Sun Jian/Ce)
Dong Clan (Dong Zhuo, soon succeeded by Niu Fu?)
Yanzhou (Lu Bu, client state of Dong in 190?)
Yuan Clan (Yuan Shao)
Xiliang (Ma Teng)
Huainan (Yuan Shu)
Yangzhou (Liu Yao)
Nanyang (Zhang Xiu)
Youzhou (Gongsun Zan)
Qingzhou (Kong Rong)
Heishan (Zhang Yan)
Liang (Li Jue)
Jingzhou (Liu Biao)
Jingnan (Han Xuan)
Liaodong (Gongsun Du)
Ba-Shu (Liu Zhang)
Wudoumi (Zhang Lu)
Nanman (Meng Huo)

Other possible factions in vanilla or as dlc:

Yellow turban remnants or resurgents
Han (as an actual faction led by puppet Xian)
Goguryeo (Korean kingdom)
Silla (Korean kingdom)
Xiongnu (proto hun horde)
Xianbei (proto mongol horde)
Wuhuan (proto mongol horde)
Qiang (Tibetans)
Viet/Thai/Khmer tribes

YouTube video I found of the mod showcasing the factions:

Screw you automatic filters, I’m trying to make a compilation of links and useful things here. Lol.

Links of decent maps for reference:

Edit: ffs steam it’s a bloody link to a map. Whatever, it’ll still be here for me to access if I click edit post...nvm now it works. I guess spacing out your links is the moral of the story here?

Lu Bu is not a subordinate state, He's an officer serving under Dong Zhou, as are Niu Fu, Li Ju, and Zhang Xiu. Expect none of these. Three Kingdoms:The Last Warlord has a 190 A.D. scenario if you want a peek. If you don't want the game, I'm sure you can answer your curiosity in less than the 2 hour refund window.
You’re probably right, in 190 lu bu would be a officer of the Dong state but the mod presents him as his own faction in 194. Also, I can imagine many people may want to play as him, starting off as a disloyal underling of Dong Zhuo, betraying him in a rebellion to pursue lu bu’s own ambitions. Basically it wouldn’t surprise me if ca had him as a faction leader that’s subordinate to another clan, making it a very difficult start scenario.

Sure I’ll give that a look, easier for me if I can find it on YouTube. Lol.
Hmm I’ve been trying to find guides about 3K: warlords on google but haven’t really found much. In the vids I watched the game was not in english (the player talked in english though) so unfortunately I haven’t seen their faction list for the 190 scenario.

I think Koei's RoTK XI does this event quite nice, choosing historical route - if by 194 you put Lu Bu and Dong Zhuo together in Chang An you get an event where Lu Bu chop off Dong Zhou''s head and DZ faction instantly fractured into several smaller factions
The koei games are harder to look at for hints of potential faction choices since in those games the player can pick just about any character to play as. They don’t have to pick what tw would traditionally consider to be faction leaders/legendary lords.

KOEI games are actually quite different each number. Some series put you as a single officer (the latest XIII is for single character), but some other put you as a ruler.
RoTK IX & XI put you as rulers with IX being an RTS game while XI a TBS game

In XI if you pick Dong Zhuo, DZ will be the ruler while Lu Bu will be your general. Until the scripted event takes place that is

Lu Bu as his own faction would work well. Historically he betrayed Dong Zhuo and went off on his own with Chen Gong, joining Liu Bei's banner in Xu Province after being defeated by Cao Cao. After that he betrayed Liu Bei, taking over Xia Pi, and as a result Liu Bei and Cao Cao banded together to defeat him. The only real problem he had was how bad of a ruler he was; For all his skill as a warrior, he had to rely on Chen Gong's brilliance to keep his kingdom afloat, and he didn't always listen. As a result he was defeated by Cao Cao and executed. TW can give him his chance to conquer China by letting the player make him act a little less like an idiot.

You don't need a guide. the game has an English translation for most elements and is availible on Steam. Like I said, You can buy it, do your research for 1 hour 59 minutes, and still get your money back via Steam refund policy if you don't like the game. It's only $10
It would be cool to have some proto-mongol hordes in the game to appease the people whinning about the "lack of diversity".
I really don’t see lack of diversity as a real problem. Granted, I know next to nothing about China or ancient China but by virtue of being a large empire spread across a large continent, there has to be cultural differences. The portion of people living in the mountains will not have the same lifestyle and army composition as the people living in the jungles, or the faction in the plains, etc. The sheer size of the region ensures cultural diversity even if they were all united and assimilated into one empire.
