Killing your leader feels impossible.
I'm playing in romance mode because I prefer the RPG-ish aspect of characters as 'the heroes' , but I also want to play as a female ruler that isn't a bandit queen (what? I like being the good guy sometimes, okay.) but to do that I have to kill off my leader, because for some moronic reason the devs didn't think to add a system that allows you to decide on a ruler; for example if Cao Cao is getting too old, you can replace him with his child ect.

Anyway, my point is this: Even when trying to actively kill cao Cao so I can play as Lady Bian, the resilience system is either bugged or stupidly overpowered because even with fights every single turn where i run at the enemy/delegate, he ends up healing after another turn, going back from yellow to green resilience. And that's if I'm lucky, sometimes he only gets kicked instead of stabbed and ends up not taking any damage. ..How? How does 1 man on a horse without his special equipment (I changed his sword, armor and horse to base ones) survive against 500 armed men? I get that it's romance mode but it's obvious i'm TRYING to get him killed.

Try fighting a bunch of units to get to half hp then duel someone, and you will die.

try dueling and if they die it will bypass the Resilience and they will be dead.

Well, it's not an oversight to not allow you to choose your leader. Leaders are set in stone at the beginning like in the book. Cao Cao is a very prominent main character. You can choose your heir so you can make Lady Bian your heir.

Generals take 2-3 wounds to kill if they are legendary figures. So you need to lose and immediately take another loss. So best to do it on your turn and disband his entire retinue and engage him solo. You have to get a Red Heart + then hit them again.

Generally people aren't trying to kill off main heroes so they are extremely tough to kill in Romance mdoe for that reason. Trying to give the player the benefit or chance to recover is better than losing your main hero...for most people.

Just wait till he dies there is literally no benefit to Lady Bian being faction leader over Cao Cao. Just lead armies as Lady Bian while you wait for his death.

Dueling also helps.

That's exactly what I have been doing - fighting on my time, getting attacked then fighting again, but somehow he still heals. And I know there's no reason to kill him, but i'm doing it only because i want to play as someone else. The game shouldn't have been so leader-focused anyway. The story was more about the people that followed men like Cao Cao; they did most of the work. Also, kindly don't tell me what to do. I don't want to lead armies as her, I want to play as her.

Just wait for some depraved waifu to release a genderswap mod.

Reminds me of the glorious times of Medieval One onwards ... when you sent your moronic heirs and kings on suicide missions deep into enemy lands, to never return .... hopefully.

Sadly seems too hard in this game? Hm, another reason to wait until later, and mods are out to maybe fix this. As someone who has no clue about any of the leaders and cares not so much, I also would rather install one of my own...and Empresses are cooler too!

Don't pretend a game where you play as a faction made up entirely of the wives, daughters and mothers of the other factions leaders wouldn't be hilarious.

Sun Ren, Ruler of China.

Supposedly people are already working on mods, and usually modders work fast. I mean, Thea 2 was only released (released, not early access) with full game code a week or so ago, and there's already mods for a ton of new events and characters. Game is still painfully badly mode and barely runs on my computer without constant stuttering but, still.

Aolso, mods like this would increase replayability. I mean, with how each character has specific abilities and bars, you end up having to do PM the same thing with them all the time.

i mean, reason being that you're probably not meant to try and murder your leaders during the game. hell, i don't even play the game, i don't know. why am i even on this forum?

what i think i'm trying to say is if they see it, dev's aren't about to change a single thing because people are having trouble killing their own guys. they don't have a system to allow you to kill off your leader or decide them in any other total war game either [at least, that i know of]. in fact, from what i'm hearing, in this game you have an advantage because you can't decide a heir in any others that i know of.

also from what i'v heard, it seems the only option you might have is to play the normal mode, until there's a mod that allows you to choose/change your leaders.

Well I wasn't trying to tell you what to do. I was giving you advice since your request to have them allow you to kill your own leaders is so singularly focused to yourself. No reason they would add that for such a niche desire. Maybe mods.

What I was trying to do was say just play as the character you want and let Cao Cao rot in character screens. You can make her your Heir so she takes over everything but besides running around on the map or being the picture in trade screens. The "leader" doesn't do anything.... so just play as who you want. (That's what I was telling you what to do)

That's the first time I heard someone wanting their leader killed XD
But I agree, would be nice to be able to choose leader eventually... or create your own faction with it's own leader; now that'd be awesome.

They already took liberties with Zheng Jiang, a character that history tells very little about to the point where they might not have existed at all, so why noy just let us create our own warlord and rule China?

It's not like the games AI is going to follow the Romance storyline anyway, it's too busy turning everything in sight into a vassal.

Dynasty Warriors Empires was great for this. Would be nice, I honestly loved creating my own character and officers. Then see how it plays out.

Actually, they existed..just as two different people. There's historical talk of two female bandits by the surnames of Zhang and Jiang, who appeared near the black mountains and were said to ally with the Black Mountain Bandits (the other bandit group led by the dood), so they basically make Zheng Jiang out of those two.

That, and a lot of the historical events don't happen most of the time. Like, Xun Yu dies in like 190 if you play as Zheng Jiang.

--

another thing I noticed is that the heir system doesn't always work. The other day I was playing as Zheng Jiang and ended up somehow dying (first time, obviously. on romance mode..sigh), and a random dude I had only just hired somehow became my factions leader instead of the still-alive heir.
