Possible for Dong Zhuo to survive?
Without actually playing Dong Zhuo, is it possible for Lu Bu to not kill him? Or is this a scripted event that will always happen? Would really love a long term campaign war against the oily bastard that burned for three days straight.

Generally he tends to die by turn 12 85% of the time and honestly is pretty soon, should be turn 16, apparently from what i've seen over on Reddit there is a 15% chance he will actually survive and continue to live, this is further if the player gets involved such as vassalising him early.

Generally its painful to even get near big Dong if you aren't playing Yuan Shu, Cao Cao, He Yi or Ma Teng

What does Dynasty Warriors have to do with Total War? Really dislike that series personally. I know from Romance of three kingdoms he always dies >.> doesn't mean he will always die in Total War. We know for a fact the game is about rewriting History.

It's pretty random pending whats happening in his kingdom. Thou odds seem to be that he dies REALLY early on for whatever reason.

On my very first game i received news of his death in mid game.

Yes, one of my games (Liu Bei, Romance, Legendary) he died of old age. Just as I was about to storm Chang An as well!

Think there is a 1/3 event chain he survives, though think it is heavily weighted towards the death decisions.
There is a chain of event that, if played according to the story in the novel, ends with Lu Bu toasting Dong Zhou for funsies. However, if you choose to break that chain of event, Dong Zhou lives (or at least, Lu Bu won't kill Dong Zhou right then and there).

Give him Diochan and he wont kill Dong Zhuo

When mods come out there will probably be a one that makes him not die early on, so many things they can do with this game i'm sure it will be one of the best total wars to date once it has proper mods, and if looking at warhammer 2's mod selection that will be the case

Thanks for the more serious replies guys. Guess I'll have to keep hoping I get that 15% one day or a modder makes it so he doesn't get killed.

Necro, but I've never had Big Dong die unless done by myself.

Any mods? Sometimes those can affect the rng of what happens...

Anyone else come into this game after growing up with DW and get annoyed at how all the hero colours are the same matching shades and have no uniqueness to them re colour and almost every hero is kinda weak looking compared to the DW heroes.

I believe CA's artistic intent was for the generals to have more realistic designs with less artistic embellishments (key word is "less", not "no", there are still plenty of nonhistorical designs).
I personally really like the direction they've taken (and I've never been a fan of Dynasty Warriors despite growing up surrounded by Three Kingdoms stories), but I can see why they might feel too different to someone used to DW.
