How do I stop being a vassal?

I became a vassal to save my own ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and while suddenly being at peace and able to sit and build up is nice at some point I want to get out of this situation or at least continue expanding while I bide my time.

The problem is I don't see any options to break it. I can't even declare war on anyone or join his wars, the diplomatic options either don't exist or I can't for the life of me find them. It's been well over ten turns and he hasn't forced me into war with anyone either. Is my game bugged or am I missing something huge?

You're a slave now boiii. Well one way is to ask another faction to help you stop being a vassal by diplomacy. But once you're a vassal you're trapped forever lol.

i thought you could open diplomacy with your vassal master and renounce it

Do you see the option there? War is greyed out universally with all factions and I can't cancel the treaties with my 'overlord'...

OK I just got out of it. Someone declared war on ME and my overlord didn't join in.
