Beginner friendly?
I'm total a new player in this series, wondering how hard this game is for newbies or noobs?

Very hard,i've played 10+ hours and don't know how to beat the game.

It's very easy. It's also forgiving on save-scumming, so if you make a costly mistake you can repeat the battle or turn of the campaign.
It's not very intricate. One might even say it lacks complexity.

be honest with you here, really hard. This is probably the most complex game from the series, with veterans have trouble with all the added mechanics.

While in the older games, you may not even care about diplomacy or relationship with AI. here, any mistake you made on campaign may have long-term consequences.

In term of campaign/turn based, it's on the way to reach Civilization or Paradox games in term of campaign complexity.

Real time battle, however, is easy. You can pause or slow down the battle if you can't micro. There're also guides and notes for you about dangerous units. So it's very beginner friendly if you talk about real time battles

it depends on which warlord you choose.

Easy to start, very hard to master; the game is a gem if you're into this sort of thing.
they should try using more words rather than few hundred icons that require mouse over just to understand what it means. this is what i call lazy cosmetic effort. imagine mouse over 10+ icon and then remembering all the stats by the time u reach the 5th icon u cant remember what the first icon stats is.... pain stupidity format that benefit no one.

They recommend Cao Cao as the starting warlord.

It is definitly the most complex Total War so far (mostly in a good way). You should not buy this game on a whim but if you like battle strategy, rewarding diplomacy, empire building and the chinese theme, then it is definitly worth researching the gameplay and buying it if you think you can handle it. And do not worry about sheer difficulty unless you have never played a strategy game in your life..

You can always turn it down to easy as well. It applies to all games obviously. Nobody need ever know and you can get on your feet. You'll want to turn up difficulty in the end anyways as easy isn't satisfying once you have got it. I've discussed it with friends who are completely new (to either rts or strategy) and I noticed I took some things for granted.

what does that mean, save scumming?, the game has an auto save feature each turn

Saving a lot in different save slots.

Troll detected.
This game is as easy as previous one. CA guted almost any strategic gameplay over last decade from series to focus on RTS part. But AI is dumb so RTS part is easy.
Its a good pseudo hiscorical fast food game to make you feel good and smart but dont expect any depth.

ok don't see why using the auto save feature is taboo, its literally there to save your battles so you can figure out different ways to win hard battles if you lose.

WTF??? Have you seen all the posts about people lost the campaign due to the heat from Sun Jian and Yuan Shao???? And you call me troll???

It's much harder than Rome 2, which I don't even care about diplomacy, and surely easier than Warhammer 2. I don't play Shogun but you dumbass who worship the old game like god should just shut up. Compare to the older games, Shogun included, this game is the most complex game ever made in campaign mechanics.

I am also a beginner and while the game is challenging, I think it is more realistic and interesting to see how the story can play out while you are learning the game.
