Defection Imminent
Does anyone know exactly what you can do about a spy that the game says is going to defect? It says to remind them but there's literally no interactions except orders which aren't going to change their opinion of their master...

From my own (limited) experience, this happens when they reach 100 satisfaction with their fake master. When they reach it, you can't do much apart from recalling them asap if you don't want to lose them.
On the flip side, the moment my guy went from 100 to 97 satisfaction, he no longer wanted to leave me for greener pastures. So I guess he has to stay at 100 for the whole duration, which is pretty difficult.

Uh, how do you recall spies?

Can't do it directly, afaik. The "easiest" way is to have him steal an item from the faction and run for the hills.
Can't check the name right now, but it is a basic spying option (quite costly tho) that only requires him to be a Court Noble.

It's called "Larceny". Down side is if the faction doesn't have anything to steal you're out of luck.

This is happening to me right now
As a spy, you can discredit members of a faction to decrease their satisfaction in the faction
I have 3 spies working for the same warring state
I could only discredit people my other spies worked directly with, and not my own spy

I would've loved if this interaction could have been a solution to the spy defection issue
Humu Zhen, your secret mission is to annoy Liang Shen.
Liang Shen: "I would love this faction, but Humu Zhen is sooo annoying"

It would be a fun layer of spy byplay, keeping your own spies loyal through spycraft

I usually just send them on a mission that I know they'll fail, and then recruit a new spy.

but larceny depends on whether the enemy has an ancillary to steal, so i let my spy get captured lmao so he can get wounded and return loll

Building on [FTJ] Otto's comment, I tested having my spy discredit the faction. Her satisfaction dropped below 100 and no longer wanted to defect

If you’re not at war, give your enemy an item THEN use Larceny to recall him.

Is there a case you recruit there spy and then use him to spy on their own master ?
