Well... Shadow Walkers have hidden, vanguard, and shoots while moving. The sistahs shoot like a plasma cannon.
Anything special about the Yi Archers/Marksmen or do they just have higher stats for an archer unit?
they are archer that is good at melee(?),dunno why you want that
need to wait for release patch to see if CA change anything
Cant wait to recruit all 5 Tiger Generals, Xu Shu, Zhuge Liang and Peng Tong in my Liu Bei campaign.
And also, In Chinese, Liu Bei's Kingdom "Shu" has the same pronunciation as rats.
If you're looking for a faction capable of ranged domination, I feel that Kong Rong or Gongsun Zan would be better choices. As a Strategist Kong Rong already specializes in using archers and giving them a lot more ammo, and what sets his unique crossbowmen apart is that they have far more ammo natively than regular crossbows. These obviously stack on each other, and given that the general ranged unit balance in 3K is that they're very high-damage but have low ammo capacity, you have a faction that's quite well-suited to annihilating their enemies from range.
I say Gongsun Zan because he has by far the best horse archers in the game, that do some really high damage and outrange almost everything else. Since they are horse archers that can fire while moving and outrange most archers, his unique horse archers are incredibly good at harassing the enemy with relatively little that can directly counter them when they're well-micro'd, and they're still pretty decent as melee cav once they run out of arrows.
Thanks, sound pretty broken to have mounted archers that outrange regular archers. Have to say Gongsun's artwork looks pretty cool as well.
Right now I'm torn between Liu Bei, Zheng Jiang, Yuan Shao and Gongsun Zan for a Legendary first playthrough.
We'll know more when the game actually comes out and we can pull all the stats apart, but it from what I observed with people playing Gongsun Zan, his unique horse archers are at least intended to be balanced by being the same range as crossbows (so they at least can trade fire with them, crossbows have a greater range than archers, repeating crossbows have a smaller range than archers), not being as fast as light raider cav so those can catch up to them, and being pretty damn expensive. Though that last one's hardly unique to Gongsun Zan, pretty much all the faction unique units are pretty damn expensive and seem mostly intended for the mid-late game.
He's got Grail Knights for unique units.
I've heard they're actually quite good in melee, unlike most ranged units. But at the same time, I've heard the increase they offer as a ranged unit isn't substantial enough to use them over militia, because with Liu Bei's militia upkeep reduction, you can field 6 militia units for the cost of 1 Yi Archer unit or something.
I always thought Yuan Shu was the rat. But the pronunciation is different for him, isn't it?
Yeah I decided to go with Cao Cao for 1st playthrough, will try Liu Bei later on.
I am all #FOR ZE LADIEEE now and the Cao Cao specific cav units.
