You can easily just ignore those aspects and stick to a classic military focused play style too.

Paradox games are like the book examples of poorly designed learning curves and practically required DLC.
Only with Stellaris did they manage to do better.

As you can see on his videos, he does a lot of Warhammer. While his cavalry handling is legendarily bad, he does a good job of showcasing the differences.
