what are the effects of negative food in a commandery?
Hello, I am trying to develop a foood strategy for my new run and have a couple of questions.

what are the effects of having negative food in a commandery?
what if i have negative food in the commandery but positive food on a faction level?
how do reserves figure into it?

will this scenario work: if i have -5 food in a commandery, 20 food in faction and some +reserve modifiers and +public order so the only negative thing in the commandery is the food but reservers and such are fine. is this an acceptable way of doing it for lets say 50 turns or so until i get some research down.

Thank you!

The game is designed for commandery specialisation, so maxing food production in farm based commmanderies and maxing industry and commerce in others using the appropriate multiplier buildings in the city for food/peasantry, commerce and industry. No need for commanderies to grow their own food, it's assumed to be shipped where needed, so the only thing that matters is your faction-wide food production vs faction-wide consumption.

Reserves are there to delay the effects of a food deficit for a period should that be necessary. If you are a net food producer food reserves are not really that important. If not they could be, especially over winter.

As long as your total faction food is positive, the local -5 doesn't matter.

This is pretty much the perfect answer.
