This is total war achievement

When do you need to declare war at the latest?
Before the turn ends? At the turn start?

This seems like an achievement that is very easy to get wrong, so i'd rather be sure.

bump, wondering too. i've always done it first-thing in a new turn but the chance of missing a new faction is so large that any concrete info about this helps

Not to mention that you won't actually notice anything went wrong until you finish a whole campaign...

And can you make peace again? Or do you need to stay at war? The wording suggests the former, but the idea of the achievement implies the latter.

It's the turn you meet the faction, so when you get the notification, but any time before you hit the end turn button.

Edit: you also need to stay at war, so it's basically a perma-war achievement is what it is.

There's a notification for meeting a new faction? I've legit never noticed.

Not that I know of. So we have to check the diplomacy screen every turn. Which is kind of a pain.

Which is why people generally don't go for it, it's usually a "I've had my fun with the game, what can I do to make things interesting?" kinda things.

Welp, i'm combining it with the legendary campaign difficulty achievement.
Let's see how many heroic victories I can pile on :P

I wouldn't do it on Legendary. Not because it's impossible, but because if you miss one and don't notice that turn you are screwed.

Trust me as someone who has the achievement from a previous title on VH, you want saves... Don't be like me and have to do it twice!

(I hadn't even looked at the achievements yet. I'm glad they brought my favorite one back!)

Don't worry, i'm making manual backups.

I do half expect to open the diplomatic screen and ragequit at some point though...

No peace, no diplomacy whatsoever, so its not very fun. i got it on my second attempt so its not buged, but just to be safe, i was declaring on factions as soon as i see them on the map, because sometimes they dont show on the diplomacy screen unless you actually met them. Having to check every single turn can sometiems make you paranoid, but it is a rare, unique achievement.

Ma Teng is quite nicely placed for this one, actually. Provided you can hold off Lu Bu and Zhang Liao, few of the other factions will attempt to close on you. Although I'm currently eyeing up a worrying presence of Liu Bei on my southern border...eh, we'll see how it goes.
