How good are Onyx Dragons?

Planning my unlocks, usually go for Azure Dragons but wanted to try something new. Been thinking about Onyx Dragons as I like ranged units but was wondering from the people that have experienced them how good are them in practise say vs standard medium archers or xbow men?

They awesome.Extra 50m range,devastating damage.Plus,after they used all ammo they actually pretty good in melee.

They are, in my view, probably the best unit in the game. Probably only Protectors of Heaven can match their relative skills.
Why?

- 250m range.
- flaming arrows.
- massive ammo amounts (can easily get 50-60 ammo late game)
- fire fast and hit hard
- decent in melee

They make sieges a doddle honestly. They are better than crossbowmen because they can burn towers, and they are better than regular archers due to added range and ammo.

4 of them with 2 trebuchets will melt practically anything before it reaches your line, or cut down enemy archers easily.

Thank you both for your reply, I appreciate it! Looking forward to them, only 10 turns until unlock. I LOVE defenders of heaven but generally prefer to use them sparingly and under a non blue leader since I would rather using a blue leader for longer ranged units and it sounds like the Onyx Dragons are going to fit that bill.

Higher tier units are balanced by cost and upkeep. They're often better at everything. Well except speed sometimes due to more armor.
