You can configure the battle UI. Hold down the Space key and a menu appears that allows you to turn various things on and off.
Right now the main thing that annoys me is how pop-up information tabs keep appearing and disappearing every time you move your mouse around on the campaign map. Having pop-up tabs flickering endlessly as I scroll through the cities menu to look for public order issues basically makes my eyes bleed. Until they fix this I really don't feel like playing the game even though otherwise I really enjoy the game. There needs to be a way to turn off the pop-ups or there should be more of a delay before they appear.
The battle interface is the best in a TW game so far, it's been simplified with quality of life upgrades while giving you plenty of control, and it doesn't have broken formations or unresponsive units like most other TW games. Yes the battles look like trash (compared to Shogun 2 at least) but I don't mind because I very rarely zoom in on individual soldiers. When I do....yeah it's bad.
I went back to Fall of the Samurai to do a campaign and damn, TW3K made me a way better player once I was dealing with FOTS's way more minimalist UI. I was way better at quickly focusing on what I needed to deal with, at focusing on strategic threats, and ignoring irrelevant threats. 3K throws so much at you all the time that you just have to deal with the learning curve.
Hrm, dunno. I thought it was a bit barren actually. Busy, sure. But not exactly artsy. I mean look at Persona 5 for comparisons!
