I've had generals who liked each other randomly start hating each other in the middle of a campaign or post battle. It seems completely random to me. Why I won't play a mode where I can't go back a save. I don't care for Russian Roulette crap that interferes with how I utilize my armies. Hard enough finding generals who get along to begin with, let alone worrying about them randomly turning on each other.

Ive had it happen when traits are gained, maybe the traits are what turns there view to you.

I've kind of figure the relationships between characters out, there is always a clash from the starting pt between one of your main guys, there will be events that give you a choice to choose which way to go, try to strengthen the bonds when possible. they gain traits from what you do, and you'll have to move people around to make the X go away. hiring people like your faction leader and heir helps too.

This is the gist of it ......
The character who have traits you prefer, will be happy.
Whereas, those you chose against may cause problems & will likely have low sentiment.
(Especially if they're placed in an army with characters who have traits you've chosen to favor instead of their own)

When the game gives you that choice dilemma between two characters with opposing views, If you tend take the side of characters who display certain personality types (overall) such as tending to choose peaceful, loyal, honorable characters then, the characters who share those type of traits you've favored will maintain high sentiment & probably cause no issues.

On the other hand, the characters who hold the opposite views of those you've chosen, will likely have lower sentiment. And these are the characters who'll cause trouble.

For example -

During the character trait dilemma choice, If you choose a passive character over a Brave character, the Brave &/or aggressive characters (may) start to have issues with the character you chose over them. In fact, they may even start to take issue with all characters who share that trait.

If you choose a Loyal character over a character who favors disloyalty, then the same as aforementioned applies & visa-versa etc, etc.

I found that it's best to take sides with characters who favor hostility, war, aggressiveness etc over those who oppose these traits. Because characters who oppose such traits are usually more passive & loyal. Therefore, although you've chosen a different outcome than they would have liked, due to their preferences they aren't likely to cause trouble over your decisions or become (as angry) about you choosing to oppose their feelings.
