Rams or siege towers, which to go for and why?
Obviously getting a strategist is the best way to assault any settlement as you can recruit siege engines in the first turn, but otherwise which would be most useful, Ram or Tower and why?

*edit* any news on whether the tower range angles getting nerfed?

Haha I haven’t seen a siege tower even once. Could you remind me where to get it?

To be honest, I think you should just hope the modding tools still come out on July 4th, as they hoped for here:
https://steamcommunity.com/games/779340/announcements/detail/1599256365688864578
and just get a mod that nerfs the towers. (The one in the reddit threat doesn't really seem to work for all towers). The fact that they hit such a long range, nearly as far as trebuchets, and also deal so much damage and shoot what seems like 1 arrow per 0.7 seconds seems absurd. Especially when dealing with level 5+ cities, it's to the point that I don't even manually fight siege battles anymore. So, here's hoping it doesn't get pushed back.

towers need a buff tho.
Scar Jul 2, 2019 @ 12:57pm
Towers don't need a buff lol with their range angle and 1-2 hit kills it's pretty powerful, you don't want towers to fell your whole army

They don't kill anything, 1 volley from fire arrows and they are all gone, why would you stand under a tower if you can erase them completely and nearly instantly? Do that to 5 towers at once with 5 archer units and you clear off the entire battlefield.

And if you're feeling too lazy to even do that just fight under testudo, enjoying 100% missile defense, they don't even tickle.
Scar Jul 2, 2019 @ 6:05pm
well it is made of wood, your archers can whittle down their archers, with the support fire of towers, the towers have a whole 180 angle of range and yes they do kill quite a few men, the towers does more damage.

Towers ain't meant to be op, have unlimited ammo, 1-2 hit insta kill, now if they actually had a limit to how much they could fire then sure buff them, but the missile block chance on some units, don't represent the actual block chance.

i had a unit with 85% missle block chance, and the towers still knocked them down obviously didn't lose all of them, and really your whining about testudo blocking missles? thats exactly what that formation was for, to block missles and to get an arrow through that gap you'd have to be lucky.

You're listing all the reasons why towers are far from OP, go on.

Trebuchets and auto-resolve is best because you don't have to worry about the defending faction always getting insta-vassalized right before your diggers or ram gets completed.

you do not need any rams at all. I never used one. It is pointless since they made the to game to be even more arcady so with infantry climbing walls ala spiderman and ridiculously OP trebuchets you won't ever think about ram

agreed, towers need a buff. buff garrisons while at it to make city battles more fun. its too easy right now by far. especially since ai never builds garrison buildings.

So "Towers ain't meant to be op, have unlimited ammo, 1-2 hit insta kill, now if they actually had a limit to how much they could fire then sure buff them, but the missile block chance on some units, don't represent the actual block chance." is me saying they're far from OP........riiiiiiight, except they are a little, it has great accuracy that barely misses, last thing we want is archer towers mowing down units and armies quickly, their job is to weaken the enemy before they get to the walls which they do well now with a great wide range, give them more damage and stuff and you'll lose half your army.

we can mod units climbing walls out which i'm sure someone will do, but don't they suffer fatigue loss from climbing walls?
󠀡󠀡 Jul 3, 2019 @ 11:42am
I just destroy the tower and clear the walls with archers, so my troops can safely climb up. Archer spam is quite effective in this game against the AI:
