What do the symbols on the faction banners usually mean?
I know of the japanese Mon and how that's basically a family emblem but I am not sure what the banners in this game indicate anyone know?

So they are basically family emblems as well neat I always have found it interesting how the flag seems to have universal meanings across cultures

it's basically always boils down too "yo this guy/party rules over this area be careful"\

it's pretty much the human equivalent of a dog peeing somewhere lol except we prefer colourful banners.

Yea but in this case chinese names are last names 1st. So for yuan shao the last name is yuan, not shao

This game simplifies the tradition a bit. The actual tradition is the banner would carry the family name of the commanding general and not the faction leader's.

so they are indeed the asian equivalent to the western coat of arms along with the japanese mon

neat seems to be a very common pattern across the worlds cultures even though the banners or symbology look different they all mean pretty much the same thing

"Yo this guy rules here dont mess with him ok".

I really like the fact that our species prefers colourful flags to mark their territory i'd hate peeing everywhere XD

The Yellow Turbans buck that trend. Huang Shao has "Heaven" on his banners. He Yi's say "People" and Gong Du's sports "Land."

Weren't the Yellow turbans basically attempting to create some early form of a democratic government? so woulden't it make sense that their banners would make references to the land and people and not a single person?

We don't know what form of government they would have created had they won. It could have been democratic. But they were pretty radical for their time, so yes, it does make sense that they would put ideas on their banner and not the names of warlords.

Last names are not first, unless there is only one name :)
