I mean, nothing beats the feeling of making a wall of red cav and running it across their backline. It makes the game for me. :D
and in this game, its quite easy to counter because the spear who reverse the charge damage to attacker only work in front of regiment or with formation actived.
so you beat spear infantry easily in charging behind them and if they have formation, you shouldnt charge at all and use ranged weapon...
Actually if they are not otherwise engaged, you do get a pretty hard backlash for charging, even in the back. They only need to be stationary.
idk about you but in previous TW after medieval 2, a mere contact with spear unit (not even in braced stance) would devastate 1/2 of the cavalry units due to their bonus against large, so even charging behind would a stupid idea. In this game, spear unit must be in brace stance to do that or get wiped. That is how it should have been. In medieval 2 2 Feudal knight units can route entire full stack army moving up hill with one good charge, you can't do that in any other total war game. The AI in Medieval 2 was very bad they can't do anything with a full stack of cavs bait and charge their units so they buffed the spear unit instead to stop players from abusing cavs. In this game they added lord skills and improved AI so that strategy is harder to pulled but it is now possible.
Previous TW game however, spear were too op it led to invention of noob box which comprised of only spears, artillery and skirmishers which is literally braindead strategy. If you aren't a noob why you are not with me?
