If my character dies, do I keep his stuff?
He's like, 72 and on his death bed.

What really? So you're saying to take the stuff off him before he dies

the armour is buried with them if its a legendary character the rest like weapon follower etc will go back to your inventory i believe

You get some of it. When my Cao Cao passed I got all but armor I believe. So now son has horse, sword, and other minor things follower etc.

Some items go back to you, but i think unique ones (such as armor with the character name) goes with them.

What I did when I had Lu Bu was to take his trident and give it to my faction leader when he was around 60 years, which seems to be the age people are more likely to die (even though he lived till 78)

think only armor is lost. my guan yu died and I gave his weapon to someone else

Unique Armor - which always says "This is bound to the character and cannot be removed" - goes with the character. Everything else you can claim.
