Advice for Recruiting Legendary Generals

I keep seeing images where people have managed to recruit a whole bunch of strong generals from other factions into their family tree. Personally I haven't really managed to pick up anybody interesting in my couple of campaigns (only just got the game).

I know it's possible via winning battles against them, marriage shenanigans and I think when a faction is eliminated. I've tried randomly looking for people for marriage without success, short story is I'm not having any luck so far.

I'm wondering if anybody would be able to give me some advice or tips on the best way to go about recruiting some of these generals?

Sun Jian would be the easiest, he has two famous sons and a famous daughter, though they do have to mature a bit.

Most of the images you see of players with a large amount of legendary heroes fail to mention that they are using mods that give them 100% capture rate on enemies.

I do know a few tricks for getting a few though. Ma Chao comes of age at around turn 15, and Sun Ce is just around that time as well. Sun Quan is roughly about turn 20-25 (most people don't really care for him so the exact turn is unknown). Sun Ren comes of age turn 87. Lu Bu, Zheng Jiang, Kong Rong and Zhang Yan are all single when the campaign starts so you can marry them easily.

Quite a few heroes are also tied to joining the faction, but that can be exploited to a lesser extent. Them joining said faction is actually tied to a specific hero and not the faction (Zhao-Yun = Sun Ce, Sima Yi= Cao Cao, Dian Wei = Cao Cao, Zhuge Liang = Lui Bei, Zhao Yun= Lui Bei), So simply having them in your faction before the proc happens will give you them as well.

Thanks that's useful information. I thought I was missing something but it was probably just mods.

I'll try pick up some of the ones you mention on my next campaign (might be able to get Sun Ren on current one actually; need to check turn when I get home).

Pretty much just check the character recruitment every turn. If you're not looking at it every turn you may miss some of the good ones as other factions will recruit them eventually.

Its easy. Look for female recruits who are in their early 30s and younger. Once you recruit them adopt them into your family. You can get Lu Bu, Ma Chao, Sun Quan or Sun Ce easily by just offering them marriage. By fall of 207 you can have a male family member marry Sun Ren.

The other heroes are about luck, i managed to get Zhao Yun in the recruitment pool as Yuan Shao took out Gongsun Zan early. Xu Hang and Taishi Ci are in the Han empire can just fight to capture them.

You can also Vassalize and Annex the factions with the most heroes I.E liu bei and caocao. You will take a significant hit to your trust rating though, but for some heroes its worth it.

Also Lu Bu never gets married, so he's available permanently whenever you are ready to deal with his satisfaction.
