Don't understand the hate
When I saw this announcement while loading my Total War Warhammer 2, I SCREAMED for joy. I'm a HUGE RTK fan and have owned and played many of KOEI's titles over the years. This is something I've been waiting and hoping for since I played M2TW.

This period is literally a BLOODBATH interspersed with intrigue, politics, romance and armies the sizes of which would make a Skaven greyseer blush (or turn green with envy). It is literally EVERYTHING a Total War game should be, a perfect setting for the carnage everyone loves to unleash on their enemies, AI and players alike.

So, why all the hate then?

I get that not everybody is interested in Asian history. And even more would have little to no idea about its all about. It's not for everyone. But hey, I didn't know ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about Warhammer before I played TW:W, and now I LOVE it. I own both games and can't get enough of the lore. Why not give Three Kingdoms a fair shake before spouting negative nancies?

I'll bet that most of these guys crying foul would actually love this game and eat a sack of crow when all is said and done.

A reasonable and wise person in steam forums? I must be dreaming.

people know nothing about ancient China but somehow they hate it.

When you look at most of the negative comments there's no substantial reason as to why they don't like it... without getting too political about the reasons why, it's mostly just ingrained prejudice, ignorance and racism.

I think many people; myself included; are worried about the fantasy vibe in the trailer and the emphasis on heroes. I was actually hoping for a China title in a different era but I will be perfectly happy with it as is so long as CA doesn't go all crazy with heroes and fantastical stuff.

Cuz there are ppl who hates Chinese in general?

Like how ppl like Japanese anime but not Chinese anime, and would call them Cartoon.

They did a good job on picking up Three Kingdoms rather than Warring States. Otherwise it would be like Shogun 2 with copy paste units for each faction

People love to ♥♥♥♥♥ and moan, some of them spend more time doing that than they spend playing games.

I'm looking forward to Three Kingdoms, if it was another setting I'd look forward to that to, I don't really care when and where it's set, for me the important thing is that it plays well. Hopefully they have learned a thing or three from Total Warhammer as I'd like to be playing Three Kingdoms on the day of release.

It's not hate, it's disappointment that we don't get Total War in a settings that we like and are familiar with. The period may be interesting to you, but I don't know anything about it and I'm not gone start reading 20 books about Chinese history to be able to enjoy a game.

dude you should get out of your comfortable zone and look at the world.

also, for CA and saga, this era is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ great entry point so they can expand their business in Asia, specifically, in China

The most displeased are always the most vocal, where as the content mostly stay quiet.

I am also pleased about this title.

I am displeased that it is 3K, I was hoping for a lesser-known era of Chinese history, like the Era of Disunity when the Xianbei took over the north, or the Warring States period. 3K has just been done to death. And, of course, the fantasy aspects of it. Hopefully they aren't going to make a Koei-style game, and will base the game off the writings of Chen Shou rather than Luo Guongzhong.

I highly doubt it would be based on Records rather than ROTK, as the legends surrounding these guys are what gives this era much of its video game allure. The typical characterizations of these figures in legend will likely remain. I can't even imagine a game where Lu Bu isn't the guy who ♥♥♥♥♥ on every other warrior, while Cao Cao isn't some anti-hero who burns with ambition, or Liu Bei isn't ambition-cloaked-in-benevolence-and-loyalty Mary Sue. I just hope there isn't MAGIC here. Oh, please. Anything but that.

And I do agree that a TW game based on the Warring States/Chu-Han Contention would be even better than 3k. I would love to kick people's teeth in as Xiang Yu or Qing Bu.

I am totally hyped for it. And im gonna hype my friends too.

Where is the hate? And how can people hate it, we haven't seen anything from the game part from an awesome trailer!
Amroth Jan 11, 2018 @ 9:26am
I'm a europhile but even I like this setting. Why would anyone hate a China-focused game?

My only worry is the variety. I'd hate for it to have the variety levels of Shogun 2
