Corpse Party but the horror elements are replaced with comedy and a lot of fan service.

If you've ever enjoyed any Corpse Party media, from the live action movie to the pc-98 rpgmaker game, anything from ios, 3ds and vita, you should enjoy this.

Some of the events in this game are canon and take place some time during Book of Shadows but before Blood Drive
If you plan to play Blood Drive when it comes out on steam/switch later (unless you already have it on vita.) That's another reason to play this!

The atmosphere in this one is unlike all of the other Corpse Party games. It's a lot more lighthearted and fun. That said, the characters remain true to themselves and very much act how they always do. The same voice actors and actresses you've known and love from previous entries, like Pikachu (Ikue Ōtani) as Sachiko

There is a little amount of fanservice, but that really doesn't take away the enjoyment from it at all, you can easily ignore it and brush it off.

Corpse Party: Sweet Sachiko's Hysteric Birthday Bash is a completely different entry compared to any other in the Corpse Party series. It's filled with humour and fanservice instead of horror and gore, but it's still enjoyable nonetheless.

I personally enjoyed this comedic entry quite a lot, and it was interesting to see all of the characters from a more humourous perspective. This definitely was a fun ride. Whilst different from the regular feel of Corpse Party series, this entry still holds its own distinct vibe in some way.

Summary:

- Basically a comedy take on Corpse Party series, which revolves around Sachiko's birthday. I was surprised that this was fun to play, even without the horror aspect I'm used to. There are some serious moments too, so it's not only stuff for the laughs.
- Purely a Visual Novel experience. There's no exploration. Reading and choice making only.
- Voice actors clearly had a lot of fun with their job for this game and it's surely top-notch, as always.
- It includes the characters from the previous games, plus it introduces a few that appear in Blood Drive.
- Multiple endings per chapter. Chapter 8 is the only one with a single ending.
- The game's ending honestly had me in tears!

Overall, I highly recommend this, if you enjoyed the previous games, even if it drifts a completely different way and has little in common in terms of feelings and setting with the other games. It's a good choice for something more laid back and amusing.

There's an ending called "Rear End" where Tsukasa suffocates under Yui's ass. There's also one where Yoshiki is gay and becomes Kizami's little brother. Now that's comedy.

Okay so once upon a time there was a horror game that was all good and fun but people complained that "Corpse Party" is all corpses and not that much of a party. So this game happened: corpses, party, fanservice! All in one!
Seriously though while not being too essential for the plot I had lots of fun reading this wacky insanity of a celebration.

Now I want Corpse Party: Blood Drive.

I got to see Yoshiki in a wedding dress and Morishige in a maid outfit begging to have his ass spanked...
10/10 experience...this is peak Corpse Party and nobody can tell me otherwise.

First of all, let's get the something out of the way: I'm a HUGE fan of corpse party series and have been since 2013 when I played the first one. So much so that I got Blood drive in Japanese when it was first released. Thus, my view on the game will undoubtedly be a bit biased. Nonetheless, I will do this review as objectively as I can.

My own perspective: So, Corpse party 2U (as it used to be known as for a long time)... A lot of corpse party fans have been waiting patiently for this title to be released in English. It's an oddity of the series: It does away with the horror and gruesome wrong ends of the previous (and following) titles, and instead focuses on the characters and the ups the humour that used to be scarcely but effectively scattered, to 11. Not necessarily something you'd expect out of a series as violent as this one, but to the game's credit, it somehow works... And oh boy does it work well. The game is a blast to play through for the first time and genuinely made me laugh a lot. If you liked the characters of corpse party and wished to see them interact with each other more, then this is the game for you. If you also liked the visual novel style of book of shadows, you'll feel right at home.

Before you buy: Now, if you instead played the previous titles for the horror and the now infamous wrong ends they have, or maybe you liked the playstyle of the first game, and didn't like book of shadows, then I'm going to tell you to not bother. This one feels like it's made for those hardcore fans of Corpse party, who just want more of the beloved characters and setting they know and love. It's also not a title you want to start the series with. A lot of the things in the game will not make sense unless you know what happens in the previous ones. The game does offer you a summary of both previous titles, but this of course pales in comparison to experiencing them yourself. You don't necessarily need to play book of shadows though, as you'll only be missing context for pretty much one character. However, Book of shadows will give you a good idea of what to expect in terms of gameplay.

On to the actual content: The game follows the style of book of shadows. You have 9 chapters that you'll play through in a visual novel style. You never move on a map in this game, so the only interactions you have with the game is making the dialogue move forwards, and sometimes making choices which lead to the numerous endings each chapter have. In short, you're almost entirely just watching the events unfold. As with book of shadows, you have bonus unlockable content that you get for finishing chapters. These include the soundtrack, information on the characters, character relationship chart and an extra chapter. There's not a lot of replay value though, but trying to find all the wrong ends does give you some rather hilarious outcomes.

The plot is a joke, literally. It just serves as a reason to have all the wacky stuff happen within the game. In short, it's Sachiko's birthday, and to celebrate it, she gathers all the Corpse party characters together for a day's worth of fun. This setup will carry you through 9 chapters worth of comedy, filled with jokes and fan service. While the fan service might've been unnecessary at times in the other titles, in here it works well with the humour the game has. The characters and their voice actors really go to town in this title, and it's clear that the translators also had a lot of fun translating this game. Both the original voice acting and the translated dialogue together brilliantly convey the comedy.

Finally, while this game might seem like a complete joke and should not be taken with any seriousness, it is in fact canon to the story of Corpse party. I won't spoil what exactly in it makes it canon, but it does have a payoff in later titles. In addition, a few characters introduced in this title will be relevant later on as well.

To sum up the review, the game is a visual novel comedy with corpse party characters and setting. If you like any of that, then I can only recommend it. If you liked corpse party for the horror aspects, I'd say give this one a pass.
