I mean, take a look f.e. on Rayman 3 ..the game looks amazing when played on high resolutions, but 40 Winks looks even worse than in 1999
I don't know if the source code for this game even exists anymore, if that's the case aside from remaking the game from scratch (unlikely at best) a ROM dump is probably the best anyone's gonna get (at the very LEAST they should offer some screen filtering options like what the Genesis games on here have, that's something plenty of emulators have and can pull off).
but this is completely wrong, this should be a PC game not a port from N64
They do AFAIK.
Because otherwise I officially dub this game "40 Drinks", because that's how many beers it would take to compare this to Super Mario 64 (which Nintendo Power did)
The bin/cue file are in the install however, so just put them in your standard PS1 emulator and play them like that. i'm playing on 64 tho.
Also, it looks bad because........ it's emulated. you're looking at a PS1 game.
Including the .bin and .cue files is a nice touch. I find ePSXe works pretty darn well and is my PSX emulator of choice.
They had to include them; That's the game. Remove them and 40 Winks won't run.
Wait, this game has bin and cue? Like if you play the game normally via an emulator? Well this is really crazy. I thought this would be a normal PC port. This is not legal in my opinion.
Piko has the rights to 40 winks. This release also uses PCSXR, just look at the EXE.. i mean, it offers save states. That's an emulation thing.
It's perfectly legal; they've paid.
Of course there are some remakes and remasters, like Turok for instance. But to be fair 40 Winks wouldn't be popular enough to warrant the funds for a remaster.
In reality, remasters are quite uncommon in the grand scheme of things. For a variety of reasons. Loss of assets, rights, developers. They may have the rights to 40 Winks, but they don't have the developers and game preservation was really bad up until recently so I wouldn't be suprised if much of the PS1 assets were deleted off of a hard disk back in the day.
