Besides, it's only really the first few levels with the boys that they are animals. After that, they are like Tessa/Suzu/Brie/Yuki/Pepper (ie mainly human with animal traits) until lover, where they are fully human (and with 100 lover+ levels, the boys will be human more often than not).
Also Crush Crush has Bearverly (who stays animal the whole time until the final level, so I don't really see the difference there, but I digress).
Just a suggestion:
Is it possible that there's a way for you to play BlushBlush (or CrushCrush) /without/ your mother finding out, or does she regularly monitor what you play?
Because if she doesn't really check, you could always get to a human or 'semi-human' stage, which could be less questionable, and you could always claim that 'it's just an outfit' when the boys are in the half human/half animal stages (like those simple Halloween animal costumes)
I played a lot of the game, at least more than enough for me to understand that with each reset they're all animals again and it becomes increasingly uncomfortable to think about going on a 1 on 1 date with a literal dog, let alone kissing one. As much as I love the idea of kissing a frog to turn him into a prince, this is a step too far, even if I really do like the way the game feels and plays.
But my mom is added on my steam and she can see my library. I have it hidden and she doesn't check it. She isn't homophobic or anything like that, but at the same time it's always degenerate to be caught playing dating sims- especially since our family is majority Christian/LDS. She'd probably just roll her eyes, but there's nothing worse than knowing one has disappointed a parent or other loved one.
Also that costume idea is really good in case she does check, but I've decided to just play Crush and keep it hidden from my steam library and play it appearing offline.
The whole animal thing just makes me really uncomfortable, and I'm sure you can understand my disappointment, since the first game had next to nothing to do with actual real animals. (I think there's a catgirl in Crush? Maybe she's just delusional, but I don't know).
For me, I guess my mind just blocks out the whole "going on a date with a literal talking animal" and just goes with the science-fiction Animorph or Beast Boy type of situation (since it is a magical curse we're dealing with here lol. I suppose I also equate it to the trend of "would you still love me if I was a worm").
That and since I've played long enough to have max reset boost/all boys in the lover+ levels, I suppose I just forgot how long the boys stay in their animal forms in the early game/low reset boost.
Now that I've put more than a passing thought into it, I do agree with you, that, if this were something that happened here in the real world, I too would be extremely uncomfortable with the notion of going on a date with what appears to everyone else to be a literal animal. Just imagining the weird looks from other people creeps me out!
But this is a fictional universe. If this world was anything like ours, the fact that a Zoo employee accidentally giving out magical water that turns people into animals would absolutely dominate the news cycle, and people in that universe could be well aware of "Human" animals existing in society.
I got baited by a friend who recommended it not knowing it was furry, so I downloaded it without checking out the steam page. The front page content of it doesn't have anything to do with furries or anything of the like. I thought that there was going to be veterinarian aspects but it was just straight up "Go on a DATE with this dog and he'll be a prince lol"
If you can find any dating sim like it but without the furry aspect, let me know, because I've been looking around and Crush Crush seems to be one-of-a-kind which is cool but also kinda sucks...
