Possible to play in windowed mode ? Higher resolution ?
Hey, i'm really tempted to buy the game since i already own Terror from the Deep. But what annoys me is that it isnt possible to play it in windowed mode. I know that the first game has a larger fanbase so, is there a mod or trick to play windowed with larger screen resolution?

sure !
Navigate to the steam game folder of UFO Defence and open the textfile dosboxconfig file.
windowresolution=original
this is the value you must change.
you can try other resolutions :
windowresolution = width x height

Thanks, ill look into it though i have found a way to play windowed in a okay resolution. Thing is, game runs a bit sluggish. Fiddled with the CPU settings and suddenly it was way too fast. Ha, this game takes some skill before even playing it.

cycles=auto limit 8000
this is the command you must play with .
you can adjust the gamespeed with it.
this are the parameters :
cycles = fixed nnnn | max [default%] [limit cycle limit] | auto [realmode default] [protected mode default%] [limit "cycle limit"]
cycles=12000 to give an example.
rise or lower the value to figure out what speed match to your computer.

Yeah, i put cycles to 10000 and now the game runs very well. These are my current configs (In case someone is looking up the thread). Im playing it windowed on a 1920x1080 monitor with a 3GHz CPU.

fullscreen=false
fulldouble=false
fullresolution= 1366x768
windowresolution= 1400x1050
output=ddraw
autolock=true
sensitivity=100
waitonerror=true
priority=higher,normal
mapperfile=mapper.txt
usescancodes=true

frameskip=0
aspect=true
scaler=normal3x

core=auto
cputype=auto
cycles=10000
cycleup=1000
cycledown=500

the game was made with 320x200 pixels iirc.
you should stay in the same format elseway the graphics will not look correctly.
just multiply the numbers .
lets say x4:
1280x800

sensivity is to control the speed of the mouse.
100 is maximum speed and surly much to quick to handle.
I prefer 55.

you can try
autolock=false
then you can move the cursor out of the dosbox window.
elseway the game lock the curor inside the window.
if you can't click onto the icons in the gamewindow then set it back to "true"

OpenXCom allows you to change resolution with relative ease - although certain options might crash your system depending on it's hardware. Plus if fixes most of the bugs (particularly that horrible 80 item limit when your base is attacked and you only have the first 80 items in your stores available - you can end up trying to defend your base with tanks and pistols.)

Look up Brutal Doom. Free-aiming, reloading, crosshair, dynamic lighting, resolution, and more.

Funny how what's even harder than playing TftD is trying to get it to run well.

But its worth it. After all those years, the gameplay is still appealing.

This works in both UFOD and TftD. I'm not sure if Apoc actually has a windows version-- at least, I don't think it works, since the game itself is an iso.

You can also have Steam open up OpenXCom from your library list too. After setting up X-com through the OpenXCom shell, make sure you put it in the original games directory and just rename the OpenXCom exe to "dosbox". Steam should read it as the original Dosbox version and boot up the nice and shiney modded version. ;)
