It's important to note that games from this era actually expected you to read the manual. In this case, there's tutorial write ups in there. You can get it in pdf form from the game's store page.
Kenshi comes from an era where the language of video games is pretty well understood by gamers and developers and it's expected that we're all able to communicate online via forums and wikis and stuff.
This stuff just wasn't true back in 94. You were expected to read the manual and for further help, read articles in magazines/standalone strategy guide books. And maybe, just maybe, you were sharing tips and tricks among your circle of nerd friends if you happened to all be playing the same game.
