The combat feels "fresh", but definitely this game "doesn't reinvent the wheel".
The gameplay is DMC / Bayonetta "light", less combos and not as fast paced, but in a good way.
The story stuff has a Persona vibe to it, again, not as deep, but building character friendship levels to be rewarded with cutscenes and hideout visual upgrades and in very much Persona 5 style, higher friendship levels provide quite substantial gameplay buffs.
The way the music queues activate according to jovial / serious / relaxing scenarios also feels similar to Persona, in that it uses the same tracks every time to help guide what the script is portraying.
I only completed Yuito story so far, the middle of the game is substantially different depending on which character you pick, but imo, the game is pretty damn solid, I like it a lot.
This was definitely my first thought.
Not sure how useful the comparison is, since it feels like not a ton of people played Astral Chain :)
Especially with the combination of 'regular' combat with a secondary system you control at the same time, it's a lot of the same feel.
Definitely more character interaction/story in Scarlet Nexus, though.
